It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Alexander Newman on Friday December 30th, 2022.
Bob spent his final years in Calgary in order to be near family, but he was a long-time resident of Milton raising two kids and owning a shoe store on Main Street called Robert Newman Shoes. His life was spent running a successful business; volunteering with many different organizations; coaching and playing with numerous sports teams and spending time with family. “Mr. Shoe” was an outdoor enthusiast who loved time in his boat or being off in the bush somewhere in his gator. A husband; dad; friend and most importantly Grandpy. He will truly be missed by many.
He is pre-deceased by his loving wife and partner Marie; oldest daughter Myrna; brother Ken; sister Lillian and brother-in-law Doug. He is survived by his sister Anne; daughter Carol; son-in-law Steve, four loving grandkids: Ethan, Lauren, Hannah, and Emma, and many adoring nieces and nephews.
Bob lived life for family and friends, so a celebration of his life will be planned for early summer. Missing you today and always.

Maria Newman helped deliver all 3 of my babies and Mr Newman helped put their first walking shoes on their feet. The Newmans were such an important part of our lives. We were also neighbours…There were both angels here on earth….Heaven has 2 of the best
Oh Mr. Newman how you could light up a room and make any kid or person feel like a million bucks when they came to see you. You were my very first boss besides my Uncle Nick who used to have a fruit stand in front of your store on Saturdays at the Milton market.
You taught me at a very very young age customer service and sales. You made me laugh, smile and always want to learn. However I will never that you taught me how to count back with money so I never had to use a calculator. Thank you for everything

Your wife Maria help my two kids come into this world. You took care of all their shoe needs and also mine. Loved going into your store. You also help me when I worked at the Manor by coming into Special Care Unit to help measure the seniors feet for new slippers and shoes. I will NEVER forget you doing that. Thank You. You and your wife made life a lot better. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!
Bob and Marie were such a big part of the Milton community and loved by all they connected with.
Bob was an institution with the Sunday morning old timers hockey league plus looked after everyone’s shoe needs.
Marie was such a big part of our first daughters birth-will never forget that!

I am so sorry to hear about your Dad. I was just thinking of him few weeks ago. How he was such a great guy always had a big smile and had time to have a chat. Bob was a BIG part of Milton with his shoe store. Everyone got shoes from Bob. Also Bob ,Marie,Myrna, and you Carol were Great neighbours to us (Armstrong) on Bronte St. Lots of good memories of back then. Thinking of you today and always through this difficult time.

Dear Carol… It was with sadness that we saw the notice of your Dad’s passing. So many memories of your family. When Dave and I settled in Milton, your Mom would often give me a ride to work. We lived in the apartments next door to your parents home on Bronte. That was the place I met Myrna as a baby. Once our children were born, your Dad fit each one with their shoes as they grew. As it would happen later, we lived on the same street again. Fun memories of you and Alana playing together! Would see your Dad in passing and would get the big smile of his, and sometimes a wee chat. Of course, working with your Mom, she would keep me up to date on what your Dad and her two girls were doing. My memory is of a loving family.

I did not know Robert personally, but I remember him fondly as a wonderful gentleman who helped me choose shoes for my children and for myself. I was disappointed when he closed his shoe store. My sincere condolences to his family. A person is never gone when they remain in your heart. May that be so for Robert ‘s loved ones.
