A funeral should be a reflection of a person’s life, a final tribute that will leave surviving friends and loved ones with memories they can treasure for years to come. Many people determine their funeral reception and memorial service details prior to their death alongside their loved ones, to ensure their wishes are met and that their family members do not experience unnecessary anxiety, inconvenience and expense.

Planning a funeral can be a lot of work, but making those arrangements ahead of time allows you to consider all of your options and make sure that you’re not missing

Planning Ahead

If you’re still unsure if you should pre-plan your final arrangements now, here are some of the most important reasons why planning your funeral and reception ahead may be the best option.

Simply call or meet with a member of our staff at our Calgary funeral home to put your plan in place. Anyone can create a plan, at any stage in their life, and you can make changes any time you wish. Our professional staff counsels people just like you every day, explaining all of the options and choices that are available.

Pre-planning lets you create your own unique life celebration and funeral reception, if you choose to have one. Including your family in the planning process can help them feel connected to you both in life and in death, and allow them to take comfort in knowing that your arrangements reflect your desires.

Pre-planning reduces the burden on your family of planning a funeral during a difficult time. It allows them more time and energy to focus on healing and remembrance. Pre-planning also reduces conflict so family members do not need to struggle to determine your final wishes

Pre-payment saves you money by protecting you from inflation and price changes. We deposit all pre-payments into financial institutions that are approved by the AFSRB (Alberta Funeral Services Regulatory Board) where it remains until needed. Pre-paying also provides peace of mind for your family, who won’t have to figure out your funeral expenses when the time comes. An added benefit is that these funds remain outside the estate, which eliminates taxation and makes things easier for your Executor who is responsible for the payment of your funeral otherwise.

Monthly, semi-annual or yearly payment plans are available to suit any budget. You will be pleased to note that a pre-paid funeral will lock in the cost against future inflation. One of Country Hills Crematorium’s Pre-planning Counselors or one of our Funeral Directors would be pleased to offer you more information on any of our Pre-planning products. Funerals can cost as little as $1295 for a direct disposition. Direct disposition includes registering the death, a basic cremation container, transporting the deceased to our crematorium in Calgary and the cremation fee. For a full-service funeral for an adult, consumers typically choose to spend an average of $7,500. This includes a professional service, transfer-of remains, embalming, other preparation, hosting a viewing, hosting a ceremony, stationery, hearse, limousine and casket. With the added costs of cemetery space, obituaries, receptions and other incidental funeral expenses, it is not uncommon for funerals to cost more than $10,000.
