Alda Brown, formerly of Fort Macleod, born on July 2, 1933, passed away peacefully in Calgary on Monday, July 28, 2025, at the age of 92 years.
Alda was born on the Church family farm east of Stavely, the second child of Gilbert and Esteem Church.
Alda married Bob Brown on April 14, 1956, who predeceased her in February of 2010. Alda is survived by her children, Kerry (Sharon) Brown of Calgary, Lorianne (Colin) Fennell of Grand Forks, N.D., and Lisa (Geoff) Tywoniuk of Kamloops, B.C.; 11 grandchildren, Breanne Brown, Lyndon Brown, Brendan Brown, Shaelyn (fiancé Eric) Brown, Bryce (Kristen) Fennell, Chase (Leslie Lekatz) Fennell, Danae (David) Swanson, Blake Fennell, Nicole (Hunter) Haisten, Wade Tywoniuk, and Paige (Daniel) Hodgins; and 12 great grandchildren, Kaleb, Arya, Theo, Esme, Hattie, Kaysen, Briar, Laynee, Rogan (Fennell grandchildren), Sullivan, Miles and Sloane (Tywoniuk grandchildren). Alda was predeceased by her parents, Gilbert and Esteem; her brother, Dr. Norman Church; and her sister, Frances Umfleet. She was especially close to her sister, Frances, and spent many enjoyable times visiting the Umfleet clan in Newberg, Oregon, and she and Bob travelled to many destinations with Frances and Doug in their retirement years.
Alda studied nursing at the University of Alberta from 1951 to 1954. Nursing was more of a calling for her than a career. She loved caring for people and was an amazing, compassionate nurse for many years, mostly in Fort Macleod. Alda and Bob owned and operated the Avenue Lodge convenience store in Fort Macleod from 1959 to 1994.
Funeral Service will be held at Trinity United Church, (220 20 Street) in Fort Macleod on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2025, at 2 p.m.
