Our beautiful mother Myrna L. Lawrence, fondly known as Babes by her family
and friends in Guyana, her homeland, left the troubles of this world behind at
the age of 93, early in the afternoon on Sunday August 31, 2025 surrounded by
the ones who loved her most.
Myrna was born and raised in Georgetown, Guyana. As a teenager, she
learned to sew and became a much sought after seamstress catering to the
fashion whims of high society ladies. Besides sewing, she excelled in all
forms of handiwork, devoting much of her time to crocheting and, in later
years, to some knitting and cross stitching. Her pictures were framed and
proudly displayed as was her collection of porcelain and other dolls.
In 1979, she, her husband and two youngest sons immigrated to Canada
settling in Calgary, Alberta. Since 2020 and until her passing, she resided at
Holy Cross Manor where she was cared for by a group of incredibly devoted
individuals. We extend our most sincere gratitude to all the staff there who
went above and beyond their job mandates to ensure her comfort, up to the
very end of her stay there.
Myrna was predeceased by her parents Manoel and Philomena (known as
Elizabeth or Bella) Pinheiro, her sister and brother Joan and Hilary Pinheiro,
and her husband Hamlet Lawrence. She will be lovingly remembered and
dearly missed by her daughter Donna Hawthorne, her sons Keith, Donald
(Agnes) and Peter Lawrence; her grandchildren Damian (Jo), Lisa, Matthew,
Jennifer (Nolan), and Shella (Tim); her great grandchildren Miles and Lucy; her
sister, Vormauer Gomes and nieces and nephew Genevieve (Stephen), Ann
(Steve) and Mark and their off-spring.
