It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Opinderjit Singh Cheema. He left this world peacefully of natural causes on September 10, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. His heart was filled with gratitude as he departed this earth at the age of 88.

Born on December 27, 1936, in Raikot, Punjab, India, Opinderjit lived a life rooted in ethics, quiet dignity, and unwavering devotion to his family. In 1967, he married Narinder Kaur Cheema (née Dhillon), sharing nearly six decades of love, companionship, and family. In 1968, he immigrated to Vancouver, British Columbia. Narinder followed him a year later, and then in 1974, they settled in Calgary, Alberta. Together, they worked hard and built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and love.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Narinder, and their sons—Adarashpaul (Arshie) Cheema and daughter-in-law Nindy (née Brar), and Rajpaul (Raj) Cheema and daughter-in-law Karen (née Sanghera). His pride and joy were his six cherished grandchildren: Zorvaver, Marley, and Alexie (children of Arshie and Nindy), and Jovin, Arya, and Asher (children of Raj and Karen).

Opinderjit now rests peacefully, reunited with his beloved parents, Ram Singh Cheema (1934) and Pritam Kaur Cheema (née Ranu, 1999), as well as his younger brother, Rajinder Singh Cheema (2018).

He is lovingly remembered by his sisters, Balinder Kaur Johal (née Cheema) and her husband, Amarjit Singh Johal, and Narinder (Neena) Kaur Tiwana (née Cheema), along with her late husband, Harpal Singh Tiwana (2002), who was also his lifelong best friend. His family circle also includes his sister-in-law, Surinder Kaur Cheema (née Gill), widow of his late brother, Rajinder. His memory will live on in the hearts of his many nieces, nephews, and their children—all of whom he loved dearly and cared for deeply. Throughout his life, he also shared a close bond with his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law on his wife’s side.

Opinderjit leaves behind more than just family; he leaves a legacy of love, resilience, and faith. While his presence will be profoundly missed, his spirit will continue to inspire and guide everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
