December 31st, 1958 – December 11th, 2025
It is with profound love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Gilles Maisonneuve on the morning of December 11, at 9:20 am, 2025, at the age of 66.
Gilles was born in the beautiful Peace River country in 1958 where he spent his formative years, attending grades 1- 12 at école Routhier in Falher, Alberta.
After attending the music program at Grant MacEwan college in Edmonton he then headed east for a number of years in order to immerse himself in the culture of Quebec and help strengthen the bond of his ancestral language.
After returning to Alberta, he went to England to marry and returned to Calgary with his wife Louise. He worked in the hospitality industry before moving on to various roles in transportation.
His memory lives on through his loving wife of 26 years, Louise, step-daughter Sarah, step-son Kevin, grandson Louis, his mother Carmen and siblings Lise, (Peter), Claire (François), Louis (Joanne) , Roland (Joan), Jean-Pierre (Deanna) and sister in law, Doris as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Gilles was predeceased by his father, Gérard and his brother, Claude, son Marc.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nursing staff at the Cancer centre, Calgary and members of the Home-care and palliative teams for the exemplary, compassionate care they provided to Gilles and Louise.
In accordance with his wishes there will be no service, but a celebration of life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be to The Meow Foundation, Calgary.

When Mom met Gilles and moved to Calgary I knew they had met their soul mate and best friend. He became the father I had never had and a role model and mentor grandad to Louis. His kindness and huge heart will never be forgotten. His creativity was always a blessing especially his renditions of classical music, my favorite Fleur de vi. Family gatherings were enriched by his dark humour and fabulous cooking skills, everything was always fun and plentiful. No words can simplify such a beautiful human as was Gilles Maisonneuve. You will be forever in my heart Papa G, thank you for the blessing that was you. My love and deepest condolences to the entire family and to you Mom who was truly loved by him.

Gilles, you will be sadly missed.
Gilles leaves me with so many memories of him, an honest true hard working person whom I looked up to in the many years I have been blessed to know him, through the times moving from England to Canada and the many special occasions we spent together. He was always there to make us laugh.

Grandad was one of the most special and influential people in my life. He treated me like a son, and raised me in a way like no other. From teaching me to ride a bike, playing cards, or showing me his absurd talent and love for music; to showing me how to be a man and the skills I need to get through life emotionally.
He was full of love, ambition, and charisma. The influence this man has had on my life and so many others will carry on for generations to come.
Thank you Grandad for being the beautiful man you are, and for always lighting the room up no matter how dark.
May your soul rest in peace, in heaven where you belong.
Love you so much,

I’d heard so much about Gilles before I met him, his fairytale love story with Louise, and how he was a natural father like figure to Sarah and Louis. But nothing could have prepared me for the man he was.
From the first moment I met him, Gilles became my grandad too. His big smile, warm hugs and calm presence made me feel at home straight away, even in a country I’d never been to before.
He was an angel on earth, saving people again and again just by being him. He had such an influence in making Louis the man he is, and I’ll thank him forever for that. He will live on in Louis always, his little him. Nan, I am so sorry for your loss. Grandad will be missed more than words can say.
Love Amy 🤍
