In Loving Memory
March 7, 1976 – July 12, 2026
With profound sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Sukhdeep Singh Johal, affectionately known as Sukh, on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at the age of 50, surrounded by his loving family.
Sukhdeep was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and a cherished member of both his family and the community. He lived his life guided by the principles of Sikhism, exemplifying humility, compassion, and unwavering faith in all that he did. A true embodiment of Seva (selfless service) and Chardi Kala (resilience and optimism), Sukhdeep touched countless lives through his kindness, generosity, and steadfast spirit.
He will be forever loved, deeply missed, and lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Sukhjit Kaur Johal; his sons, Joven Singh Johal and Harman Singh Johal; his parents, Lakhvinder Singh Johal and Resham Kaur Johal; his brothers, Gurbir, Varinderjit, and Gurinderjit, along with their spouses; as well as his uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces, extended family, and many dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Sukhdeep’s memory to the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

Today I learned that an old friend, Sukhdeep Singh Johal, has left us far too soon at just 50 years old after a courageous battle with cancer.
Even though Sukh was a couple of years older than me, he always treated me like a younger brother. Back in high school, a bunch of us would go to his house for lunch. If he noticed I didn’t have much to eat, or even thought I might still be hungry, he’d quietly offer me his own lunch. That was just who he was.
Sukh was far smarter than I was, especially when it came to math. I asked him for help more times than I can count, and not once did he ever make me feel inferior or embarrassed. He taught with patience, kindness, and humility.
Those small acts of generosity may have seemed ordinary to him, but they left a lasting impression on me. They are a reflection of the incredible man so many knew and loved.
Waheguru Ji truly needed a good soldier. He has welcomed home one of His very best.
My deepest condolences to Sukhjit, Joven, Harman, and the entire Johal family. May Waheguru bless you with strength, peace, and Chardi Kala during this incredibly difficult time.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Sukh’s passing. I had the privilege of working with him and always appreciated his kindness, professionalism, and positive attitude. He was someone who was genuinely enjoyable to work with and made those around him better. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and everyone whose lives he touched. He will be greatly missed.
I was so deeply sad to hear of Sukh’s passing. I worked with him for many years at the AER and he always had a smile on his face and he was always so kind. My deepest condolences to his entire family. I know he’ll be deeply missed..
