April 7th, 1940 – February 18th, 2026
It is with great sadness that we share Jozsef (Joe) David Nemeth passed away in the early hours of February 18th 2026 with his family by his side at the Bethany Care Center in Harvest Hills after a courageous battle with Vascular Dementia. Through it all Joe never lost his spirit, sense of humor and love for his family. Especially (in his words) his beautiful wife Marta. He remembered everyone right up to the end, and would be so proud to tell the care workers who we were when we visited. This is my family he would say with a smile on his face, naming us all.
Joe immigrated from Hungary to Calgary where he met the love of his life Marta. They married in August of 1961 and had three children, Joe, Ritchie and Susan (Smith).
Joe was a Master Cabinet Maker. His passion was working with wood and creating beautiful masterpieces. He worked alongside his son Ritchie, finishing many houses in Calgary and area, even building several from the ground up. He was extremely sought after in the housing industry for his exquisite craftsmanship and attention to detail. Some of the completed houses he worked on were even featured in home magazines.
Joe loved to be outside enjoying the great outdoors. He loved adventure, from snowmobiling and skiing in the winter to boating, motorbike riding, fishing and camping in the warmer weather. Nothing made him happier than to have his family by his side during these adventures. We all have this special sense of adventure thanks to our dad and enjoyed many good times together as a family.
Joe is survived by his immediate family, Marta, Joe, Ritchie and Susan, as well as his grandchildren, Morgan, Amanda, Gabrielle, Jeremy and Steven. Also his nieces and nephews, Tamas, Pityu, Ani, Les, George and Debbie. He was predeceased by his mother Erzsebet and father Gyozo. As well as his siblings brother Gyozo and sister Anna.
Joe’s life was full of fun, adventure and love. At his request he will be cremated and no funeral will take place. Rather there will be a Celebration of Life this summer for friends and family to remember Joe the way he used to be and will always remain in our hearts.
