Maria De Fatima Sara Pinto

Maria de Fatima Sara Pinto, affectionately known by all as “Sarita”, passed away at the South Health Campus on August 29, 2021 at the age of 70 years after a valiant and lengthy battle with complications due to pneumonia.Sarita was born on September 21, 1950 in Ponda, Goa, India.  Sarita was raised in Goa, India along with her 6 brothers and 2 sisters.  Sarita was a devout Catholic and when her deteriorating health prevented her from attending mass, she instead watched mass daily at home.  She met her future husband Francis (Franky) Pinto in 1970, and they were married in Old Goa, India on May 23, 1976.  Sarita and Franky emigrated to Calgary in 1980 seeking a better life and better prospects. She worked in many different industries including retail, senior services and food services during her 40 years in Canada all whilst raising her family.  Sarita was the most loving wife, mother and grandmother one could ever ask for. Her immediate and extended family were the most important part of her life.  She was an exceptional Goan cook. Her curries, finger foods and pickles were the stuff of legend in Calgary! No one ever left hungry from Sarita’s house.  She was a joker, a brilliant entertainer and the life of every party, celebration and event she hosted or attended.  Sarita is survived by her beloved husband Franky, her daughter Sheryl (Charles), her son Shawn (Diana and son Adrian) and her precious    grandchild Shayne.  Sarita is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Adv Nelson (Justina), Sylvia (Oscar), Wilson (Eloma), Dr Antonio (Diana), Ivo (Vanita), Yolanda (Augostinho), Iovil (Mary) and Irvin (Ismalia); her numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends far and wide, too numerous to count.  Sarita was predeceased by her parents Adv Francisco A. A. Soares and Carmina B. L. Cardozo e Soares as well as her Stepmother Maria Yvone Jesuina Leitao e Soares.  The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks and deep appreciation to all for your many acts of kindness, comforting words and prayers during this time of sorrow. May God bless and sustain each and everyone of you.  “I can’t think of a more wonderful thanksgiving for the life I have had than that everyone should be jolly at my funeral.” – Admiral Lord Mountbatten
