Patricia “Pat” Miles passed away peacefully in Calgary, Alberta, on Saturday, January 3, after many years of courageously facing the deteriorating effects of Parkinson’s disease.

Pat was born on March 18, 1945, in Canora, Saskatchewan, to Patrick and Elsie Fernets.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Frank Miles (2011), and by her parents, Elsie and Patrick Fernets. Pat is survived by her brother Curtis Fernets and his wife Debralee, her nieces Elyse and Jessica, and her nephew Matt Fernets.

The family moved to Saskatoon in 1960, where Pat completed her formal education at Mount Royal Collegiate, excelling in drama and art classes. In 1964, the family relocated to Yorkton, Saskatchewan. When the family later moved back to Saskatoon in 1966, Pat chose to remain in Yorkton, a decision that would shape much of her life. There, she met and married the love of her life, Frank Miles, in 1967.

Pat began her working career with Saskatchewan Government Telephones before moving on to Employment Canada. She later transitioned to its provincial counterpart, where she worked as a counsellor until her early retirement due to health reasons. Pat pursued and advanced her career by completing many professional courses over the years. She took great pride in her work, greatly enjoying the challenges it provided and the opportunity to help others.

Pat had a lifelong passion for animals of all kinds. Over the years, she shared her life with many horses, dogs, and cats, each deeply loved. She and Frank purchased a cabin at Lady Lake, Saskatchewan, where they spent countless summer and winter vacations, creating cherished memories well into their retirement years. Pat and Frank shared a passion for the outdoors, including fishing and kayaking. Her hobbies also included a lifelong passion for creating and collecting local art of all types.

In May 2022, Pat moved to Calgary to be closer to her brother and his family, a connection that meant a great deal to her in her later years. She was particularly grateful for the care provided by the associates of the Royal Park Carewest long-term care home during the waning years of her life.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Judy Bernat of Yorkton for her unwavering kindness and countless hours of support, including shopping and assistance while Pat resided at the Crossing Retirement Residence.

Pat will be remembered for her quiet strength, her deep compassion for animals, and her enduring love for family.
