“Rees Jenkin Llewellyn passed away peacefully on December 24th , 2025 at the age of 85. He was devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a valued friend to many. He will be remembered for his kindness, strength, work ethic, and sense of humor. Throughout his life, he earned the respect of colleagues and friends alike through his professionalism and kindness.
He is survived by his wife Sandra, sons Michael (Lisa), Richard, and David (Nicole), and by his grandchildren, Sydney, Charlie, Sean, and Aaron.
Born on November 6th, 1940, in Neath, Wales, Rees graduated from University of Wales at Swansea in 1965 with a Ph.D. in Metallurgy. After various roles in the private and public sector in the United Kingdom, his experience and expertise brought him to Canada in 1981 to work for Syncrude. Rees spent 20 years in Edmonton where he and Sandra raised the boys. In 1996 Rees and Sandra moved to White Rock for a more “British climate”, where Rees continued his technical work with National Research Council Canada. He ultimately retired in 2010 but continued to provide consulting help to anyone who asked as he loved to discuss technical matters.
In accordance with his wishes there will be no service, but a celebration of life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made at Rosedale Hospice – www.hospicecalgary.ca”
