It is with great sadness that the family of Joy Bekker of Calgary, AB announces her passing on Monday, April 24, 2023 at the age of 84 years.

Joy Bekker was born in Cabri, SK on March 26, 1939. She attended school at Misericordia Nursing School. Joy worked as a nurse in Red Deer, Hanna, and Brooks as a community home care nurse.

Joy was most happy surrounded by her family and friends at events and holidays. Many of us will have fond memories of Joy’s chocolate chip cookies paired with beer or your favorite beverage. Or perhaps sneaking the cookies from the freezer. Joy always had time to chat. She took the time to learn your life story and all your family members names. If she caught you, and you had time, Joy would share every picture of her family that she carried with her.

Joy will be sadly missed by her two children Karen Werschke (Graham Werschke), and Paul Bekker (Jennifer Bekker); her six grandchildren Kyla Werschke (Terran Bernhard), Breanna Lockert (Cody Lockert), Lucas Bekker, Joel Bekker and Gillian Bekker; and her two great grandchildren Liam and Lilly Lockert. She will also be missed by her sisters Linda Johnson (Bruce) and Anne Bang (Mark) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Joy was predeceased by her husband’s David Bekker and Colin Austin; and by her grandchild Kira Bekker. She is also predeceased by her mother and father Cecil and Vera Cushing and her brother Vern.

Joy’s final resting places will be at Eden Brook watching over her granddaughter Kira and in Brooks with her first husband Dave.

Please gift yourself flowers and think of Joy. Her favorite flower was a carnation. Joy’s family thanks everyone for their support. Per Joy’s request there will not be having a funeral, please gather and celebrate her life. She will be sharing wink from above.
