Kamla (Kastur) Gohill

Kamla (Kastur) Gohill

July 21, 1941 – April 18, 2026

With broken hearts, yet immense gratitude for a life so deeply loved, we share the passing of our beloved mother Kamla (Kastur) Gohill, who left us on April 18, 2026.

Kamla was born on July 21, 1941, in Manavadar, Gujarat, India, to Santok and Govind. As a young child, she moved with her parents to Nakuru, Kenya, beginning a life defined by movement, sacrifice, and quiet strength. At just 17 years old, she entered an arranged marriage with Kanti Gohill, seven years her elder, starting a lifelong journey rooted in devotion and resilience.

Her life carried her from Nakuru to Moshi, then Nairobi, and ultimately to Canada in 1976, a courageous move made with one purpose above all else: to give her children opportunities she herself never had. Wherever she lived, Kamla created a sense of home;a place of safety, warmth, laughter and unwavering love.

Kamla was predeceased by her husband Kanti, who passed away on January 24, 2023, and by her brothers Pursottum, Vithal, and Mahesh. She is deeply missed by her sister Rama (née Varu) Bharadwa and sisters-in-law Prabha Varu and Mina Varu.

She leaves behind the greatest joys of her life, her children:
Jit (Cindy), Daksha (Ed Otto), Tina (Dr. Larry Stanleigh), Nick (Lisa), Jay (Sandra), and Bob (Lori).

She was a loving and constant presence in the lives of her grandchildren Courtney (Quintin), Isabel, Suriya (Scott), Hana, Connor (Krista), Miya (David), Chase, Samara, Eric and Max, and a proud greatgrandmother to Everest and Asher Fookes. Kamla is also fondly remembered by her many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and the countless people whose lives she quietly touched.

To her family, and to so many others, she was simply Ba.

Ba devoted her life to caring for her family. She raised six children with warmth, patience, discipline, and fierce love, while also working for many years as a housekeeper at the Four Seasons Hotel. In all she did, whether tending to a home, a child, or a stranger, she was guided by empathy, love, meticulous care, and a deep sense of pride

Though she lived without wealth or formal education, Ba possessed a rare and beautiful intelligence of both mind and heart. She was kind, empathetic, and endlessly generous, always giving far more than she had. Her home and her heart were always open. Many came to see her as a second mother, finding comfort in her presence.

She had a gentle habit of humming her favorite songs as she worked, filling ordinary moments with warmth and quiet joy. She was a devoted wife, a fiercely protective mother, and the quiet resilient backbone of her family. Her love was steady, her strength unspoken, and her impact immeasurable.
