July 21, 1941 – April 18, 2026
With broken hearts, yet immense gratitude for a life so deeply loved, we share the passing of our beloved mother Kamla (Kastur) Gohill, who left us on April 18, 2026.
Kamla was born on July 21, 1941, in Manavadar, Gujarat, India, to Santok and Govind. As a young child, she moved with her parents to Nakuru, Kenya, beginning a life defined by movement, sacrifice, and quiet strength. At just 17 years old, she entered an arranged marriage with Kanti Gohill, seven years her elder, starting a lifelong journey rooted in devotion and resilience.
Her life carried her from Nakuru to Moshi, then Nairobi, and ultimately to Canada in 1976, a courageous move made with one purpose above all else: to give her children opportunities she herself never had. Wherever she lived, Kamla created a sense of home;a place of safety, warmth, laughter and unwavering love.
Kamla was predeceased by her husband Kanti, who passed away on January 24, 2023, and by her brothers Pursottum, Vithal, and Mahesh. She is deeply missed by her sister Rama (née Varu) Bharadwa and sisters-in-law Prabha Varu and Mina Varu.
She leaves behind the greatest joys of her life, her children:
Jit (Cindy), Daksha (Ed Otto), Tina (Dr. Larry Stanleigh), Nick (Lisa), Jay (Sandra), and Bob (Lori).
She was a loving and constant presence in the lives of her grandchildren Courtney (Quintin), Isabel, Suriya (Scott), Hana, Connor (Krista), Miya (David), Chase, Samara, Eric and Max, and a proud greatgrandmother to Everest and Asher Fookes. Kamla is also fondly remembered by her many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and the countless people whose lives she quietly touched.
To her family, and to so many others, she was simply Ba.
Ba devoted her life to caring for her family. She raised six children with warmth, patience, discipline, and fierce love, while also working for many years as a housekeeper at the Four Seasons Hotel. In all she did, whether tending to a home, a child, or a stranger, she was guided by empathy, love, meticulous care, and a deep sense of pride
Though she lived without wealth or formal education, Ba possessed a rare and beautiful intelligence of both mind and heart. She was kind, empathetic, and endlessly generous, always giving far more than she had. Her home and her heart were always open. Many came to see her as a second mother, finding comfort in her presence.
She had a gentle habit of humming her favorite songs as she worked, filling ordinary moments with warmth and quiet joy. She was a devoted wife, a fiercely protective mother, and the quiet resilient backbone of her family. Her love was steady, her strength unspoken, and her impact immeasurable.

Mota Ba will be so deeply missed. What a beautiful tribute, reading this with tears in our eyes, remembering how truly special she was. The tribute captured the essence of who Mota Ba was as a person, a wife, a sister, an aunt, and most of all as a mom, a mom to all of us.
Some of our favorite memories of Calgary will always be around the table and in the kitchen, cooking in the garage, Kantibhai’s famous curries filling the space with delicious aromas, and the hilarious chaos that always followed the puri rolling competitions. The house was always full of laughter, warmth, and love. Mota Ba had such a gift for making everyone feel cared for and truly special. No matter who you were, you felt it the moment you walked in.
Even though we are at a distance, our cousins are always in our hearts, and we are with you during this incredibly sad time.
We like to think that Mota Bhai, Kanti Bhai, Mum, and Mota Ba are together again, sharing a Carlsberg or a cup of chai, surrounded by laughter, love, and the same warmth they gave all of us.
Our hearts are with you. Her love will always stay with us.

Our deepest condolences to Jitu, Daksha, Tina, Nick, Jay , Bobby and the Gohill family. We have very fond memories of Kamlabhabhi. We used to have very good times in Nairobi at their home. Kamlabhabhi was always very welcoming. Very warm hearted. We will cherish our last memory of her a couple of years ago in Calgary.
You all take care and cherish her memories.
To the Gohill Family,
We feel so fortunate to have spent time with Ba during our visit to Calgary in the summer of 2022. She was incredibly loving, warm, and full of grace. The deep respect and admiration from her children and grandchildren were so evident, and truly speak to the wonderful person she was. Wishing you all strength during this difficult time. May her memory be eternal.
Please accept our condolences at this sad time. Memories from my childhood. Was happy to meet in 2009. May departed soul rest in peace.

Kastur Ba.
Among all the wonderful things you did, I want to add one more: staying married to my Brother Hero, easily the most difficult man in the world to live with. You tolerated his most crazy demands like how cilantro must be chopped. But most of all, your unquestioned wiilingness to serve hot chapatis when Kanti Bhai was ready for dinner and when half the city was assleep. Love you, Bhabhi. We all will miss you sorely.
Our deepest condolences to Jitu, Daksha, Tina, Nick, Jay, Bobby and families. Will always remember Kamlabhabhi with fondness. Your smile was precious. You all have given an amazing tribute to a beautiful person. May her sould rest in peace. Love from Pratima and Neil Gohill (Kishorbapa’s family)
Since our childhood, we have known Kamala Bhabhi, as a very kind and loving person. She welcomed everyone with a warm heart and smile.
We will cherish those memories .
May she rest in peace ! Our condolences to the family.
