Albert Bowditch

Albert Bowditch

It is with the utmost sadness to say that the world lost an extraordinary, generous, kindhearted man on August 30, 2024 when he was untimely called up to heaven. George “Albert” Bowditch was born in Edmonton, Alberta in 1948. The second oldest son to Janet and George Bowditch. Albert, his older brother Michael, younger brother Raymond, and sister Karen attended school in Ardrossan, Alberta. Here in Albert’s youth is where he found his love of sports, playing both hockey and fastball.

Albert met his soul mate Sharon, at a fast pitch tournament in Edmonton. Immediately after their initial meeting, including a few first dances, they both knew that this could be something incredibly special, and they were right. Al and Sharon were married in 1973. They were incredibly blessed to have recently celebrated their 51st anniversary.

Al was a devoted father to Tracey and Sandra. Fast pitch became a family sport and could always be found with them on the baseball diamond, hitting balls to them to practice their fielding, catching for them as they practiced their pitching, and pitching to them, or at them! He was always a coach to one or both of their teams, and forever cheering on absolutely everyone. Al was an avid golfer as well, and he shared his prowess and adoration for the game with his daughters. He was very proud when both his girls surpassed his skill. Although he still has had more hole in one’s than both of his girls combined!

Al worked the majority of his career in the oil and gas industry. He quickly assumed increasing responsibility within the oil companies he helped grow. He enjoyed working with his customers to guide them to achieving the most for their businesses.

As Al and Sharon entered their retirement years, they spent a lot of their time at Country Hills Golf & Country Club and began spending their winters in Arizona. They built a wonderful community of friends through their love of golf.

Al considered his greatest accomplishment to be his family. Sandra and Karlo reside in Calgary and were able to have many home cooked meals together, accompanied by good humour, chats about shared interests and the occasional golf game thrown in the mix. Al and Sharon often spent time in the U.S.A. with Tracey and Bob, playing many cribbage and board games together. Al cherished his time with his grandchildren Ashley, Jacob, and Amanda, also his great granddaughter Ezra. Although they were separated by distance, Al made it a priority to attend many sporting events and school activities. He was always encouraging his daughters and grandchildren, sharing his life advice gained through his experiences.

As one of the last raggedy-assed kids from Clover Bar Village, Al always remembered his roots. Al Bowditch, you did good and we miss you so much.
