Amar Kaur Sekhon

Amar Kaur Sekhon

In Loving Memory of our beautiful Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, Amar Kaur Sekhon, known to us as “Bebay”, we welcome friends and family to join us in commemorating her incredibly inspiring life. Born in Killi Chahlan in Punjab, India, and married into the village of Jhandiana Sharki, in Punjab, India, Bebay lived a grand life, rich in love, faith and courage. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her children and grandchildren on Saturday January 22, 2022 after a beautiful life of over 103 years. In her extraordinary lifetime, Bebay was the eldest of 8 children – she had 2 brothers and 5 sisters. She raised a tight-knit family of two sons, Sukhdev and Baldev and three daughters, Manjit, Kulwant and Balwinder – instilling her strong values in each of her children.

The words brave and courageous understate the willpower and shear strength of our Grandmother. She was a force and anyone who met her loved her, and they felt her vibrant energy. She would carry her children for hours between villages, working on the family’s farm, maintaining a household and doing everything she could to help others. She would stand up for justice, defying the Sarpanch, (the village leader), and challenge anyone who tried to cause harm to her or her family and friends. She was an incredibly fierce and courageous woman, especially at a time when women rarely spoke up in India.

In 1978, Bebay immigrated to Canada with her children and our Grandfather. She raised a big clan of 19 grandchildren. From her strong foundation, grew 19 Great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She dedicated her entire life to raising us and supporting our parents so that they could establish a secure and comfortable livelihood in Canada.

Bebay’s greatest joys in life were her connection to God and her love for her family. She devoted her time to reading and understanding Gurbani and living in spiritual truth – while instilling those values in us. Although we miss her dearly, it gives us solace to know that she passed surrounded by her family, and with Gurbani playing all around her. Our Grandmother was a one-of-a-kind human whose beautiful soul will live on within each of us. May she rest in power and peace, forever in our hearts. We love you Bebay and we can never thank you enough for all that you have done for us.
