With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Arne Hansen on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at the age of 83 years. Arne’s memory will be forever cherished by his wife Geraldine, son Stan (Michelle) Hansen, daughters Rita Buck, Mary (Mark Rozon) Winkel, and Vicki (Ivan) Sawtell and his stepchildren Wade (Renee) Myles, Lance (Robyn) Myles and Michele Musil. Arne will also be dearly missed by his grandchildren: McKenzie Sawtell, Cydney Sawtell, Ethan Hansen, Nathan Hansen, Tyrel (Tiana) Musil, Ethan Musil, Fontanna (Tyler Young) Myles, Dylan Myles, and Erika Myles as well as his great-grandchildren Everett Young and Amara Young. Arne was predeceased by his parents Herluf and Gudrun Hansen and his first wife, Christa Hansen.
Arne was born January 13, 1939, in Lunde, Denmark. He immigrated to Calgary from Denmark in 1962 with his long-time friend, Leif Hansen. Arne was raised on a farm in Denmark and continued to work on a farm in Vermillion before beginning his career in construction.
Arne met his first wife, Christa, in Calgary in 1964 before moving to Nelson, BC where they had their first daughter, Rita. Arne later returned to Calgary to start his carpentry apprenticeship where he had his second daughter, Mary. Arne started his construction supervision career with Nu-West Homes building houses in Cochrane Heights where they purchased a house and had their third daughter, Vicki, and their son Stan. In 1994 Arne met his current wife, Geraldine Myles, and they enjoyed many years together dancing and travelling the world where they would often venture off the beaten path. Arne retired from his Field Operations Manager position with Sterling Homes in 2003.
While in Cochrane, Arne was a long-standing member of the Lions Club, the Curling Club and the Horseshoe Club and was very active in the community. He was also a member in good standing of the Royal Canadian Legion #285. After moving back to Calgary Arne enjoyed many years performing in the Country Cuz It’s Fun and the Country Spirit Dance Society dance clubs. Arne is best remembered as a talented dancer as he spent as much time as possible on the dance floor.
Arne will be greatly missed by his many friends and relatives. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 pm on March 25th at Royal Canadian Legion #285 located at 9202 Horton Road, SW Calgary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Veterans Society Food Bank at https://www.theveteransfoodbankofcalgary.ca/ or your charity of choice.

What a lovely man Arne was. Always a smile, a joke, laughter in his eyes. It is no wonder he has left behind such a large grieving family, friends at home and from places travelled. Roland and I have many happy memories of times spent with Arne and Gerri in Mazatlan, and we extend our deepest sympathy to you, Gerri, and all of the family.
I have known Arne and Gerri quite a few yeats and we had nothing but good times. We travelled together and enjoyed every minutes. They were very good friends which Gerri is still close to me. She feels like asister more than a friend. I hope we remain friends and enjoy the rest of our life doing what we enjoy most Arne i will really miss you forever, your laugh, your jokes, your kindness and friendship.
October 1994, I had the pleasure of meeting Arne for the first time. Gerri, her sister Gina & I had signed up to take dance lessons but we did not have dance partners.
Arne and his son Stan, generously donated their time and offered to partner up with us ladies.
And thus, the start of an amazing relationship between Arne and Gerri. Over the years their love for one another blossomed and as well for their love of dance.
Arne , my Dear Friend, I will miss you but I will always Cherish your Friendship. You were an amazing Husband to Gerri, Father to your Children, Grandfather to your Grandchildren, and a Very Special Friend to many!!!
I send my Sincerest Condolences to my Dear Friend Gerri, Arne’s children, Stan, Rita, Mary, Vicki & their families.
Arne you were always a Gentleman here on earth, so I know you will save a dance for me in heaven.
Just recently we learned about Arne’s passing.
We are shocked as we certainly didn’t expect healthy, young man going through a medical distress.
We have known Arne and his beautiful wife Gerri for many years as they were dancing to our music pretty much regularly.
Both of them always projected love, harmony and incredible sense of friendship to all around them including us!
Arne we will miss your smile, your big heart and generosity! You will stay in our hearts forever! Our deepest condolences Jana and Danny.
