Arne was born January 13, 1939, in Lunde, Denmark. He immigrated to Calgary from Denmark in 1962 with his long-time friend, Leif Hansen. Arne was raised on a farm in Denmark and continued to work on a farm in Vermillion before beginning his career in construction.
Arne met his first wife, Christa, in Calgary in 1964 before moving to Nelson, BC where they had their first daughter, Rita. Arne later returned to Calgary to start his carpentry apprenticeship where he had his second daughter, Mary. Arne started his construction supervision career with Nu-West Homes building houses in Cochrane Heights where they purchased a house and had their third daughter, Vicki, and their son Stan. In 1994 Arne met his current wife, Geraldine Myles, and they enjoyed many years together dancing and travelling the world where they would often venture off the beaten path. Arne retired from his Field Operations Manager position with Sterling Homes in 2003.
While in Cochrane, Arne was a long-standing member of the Lions Club, the Curling Club and the Horseshoe Club and was very active in the community. He was also a member in good standing of the Royal Canadian Legion #285. After moving back to Calgary Arne enjoyed many years performing in the Country Cuz It’s Fun and the Country Spirit Dance Society dance clubs. Arne is best remembered as a talented dancer as he spent as much time as possible on the dance floor.
Arne will be greatly missed by his many friends and relatives. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 pm on March 25th at Royal Canadian Legion #285 located at 9202 Horton Road, SW Calgary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Veterans Society Food Bank at https://www.theveteransfoodbankofcalgary.ca/ or your charity of choice.
