We still miss you Arnie. My brother hasn’t been the same without his best friend.
I met Arnie about a year before he died. We spent a lot of time together, though, especially over that last summer/fall, and I feel very lucky to have gotten to know him. He had an amazing sense of humor and an uncanny ability to make people laugh, and was incredibly generous, sometimes to a fault. He could be an incredibly loyal and caring friend. That said, Arnie was a complicated person… I think that he had a lot of insecurities, and often felt he needed to project a certain persona around people, both to be liked and because of what he did for a living. He dealt with his struggles in ways that were not always healthy (something the two of us had in common), and on rare occasions, those insecurities and coping mechanisms combined in a way that brought out the worst in him. That said, we’re all human… Arnie was a good person at heart, who deserved better than the undignified death that was chosen for him. I miss him a lot.
