Peacefully in his 80th year, on Sunday, October 3rd, 2021, Baldev Singh Banwait passed away after a 6-month battle with lung cancer. Loving and devoted husband to Harbhajan Kaur, caring father to Jeeta (Al) Ladak, Puma (Jyoti) Banwait, Harjit (Shivtaj) Zirvi, Anjani (Donny) Saran, and Hardip (Satbir) Banwait, and grandfather to Raymon, Jasmine, Ravina, Ajay, Parveen, Alisha, Aneeqa, Eshaan, Diya and Dhevin; he will be dearly missed.
Baldev Singh was born on October 17, 1940 in the village of Mahil Galan, son of late Hukam Singh and Bachan Kaur Banwait, dear brother to Harmesh, Tarsem, Surinder, Jasbir, Balbir, Balwinder, Santosh, and Avtar, and brother-in-law to Balwant Singh Badwal. He immigrated to Canada in 1974 with his wife and 3 children, arriving in Vancouver where his two younger children were born, and later settled in Golden B.C. It is in Golden that he established a wonderful home and life for his family of seven, and where he worked for over 35 years at the local sawmill, Evans Forest Products.
Baldev valued hard work, commitment to family and community, and treated people with fairness and respect, above all else. He instilled these strong values in his children and in his grandchildren, and through his example, inspired these values in many others. He was a rare soul, and those who were fortunate to have known him loved him for his loyalty, honesty, and his caring and warm personality. Lovingly referred to as “Dad” by many, his larger-than-life presence will be missed by all who knew and loved him. In our hearts forever you will remain as Dev, Bhaji, Dad, Nana Bhapa, Taya Ji, Chacha Ji, Fufar Ji, Mama Ji, Massar Ji, & Uncle Ji.
Funeral Ceremonies will be held at COUNTRY HILLS CREMATORIUM & FUNERAL SERVICES, 11995 16 Street NE on Friday, October 8, 2021 at 1:00 pm.
