With great love and sadness in our hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Bhapa, Bhagmal Gainda. Born on December 12, 1941, in Nakodar, Punjab, India, Bhagmal—or Bhag, as his family called him—was the youngest son of Late Mrs. Raj Kaur & Sh. Amar Chand Gainda. Bhag was born into a working-class family, attended college, played football, and was a fervent intellectual – graduating with a Bachelor’s degree. He spent the majority of his life involved in his family business of leather and agriculture. Bhag married Vidya Wati, and together they had seven children: five daughters (Tripta, Mamta, Babli, Rajni, and Savita) and two sons (Subash and Rajesh). Bhag has two daughter-in-laws (Sunita and Manju) and five son-in-laws (Sukhdev, Resham, Raj, Kamaljeet, and Jatinder). Bhag is also the grandfather of ten granddaughters (Shivpreet, Komal, Nikita, Babita, Pallavi, Divya, Simran, Mansi, Sunaina, Seerat) and eight grandsons (Lovepreet, Sankait, Sushaant, Dylan, Yugam, Barham, Rohan, Manraj). After moving to Canada in 2006, Bhag worked extremely hard and retired in 2016 while remaining an active member of ‘Guru Ravidas Society of Calgary’. Bhag will be remembered most for his love of crossword puzzles, his black toque, learning, physical exercise, and inspiringly disciplined lifestyle. Bhag was the rock of our family, the pillar of our lives. His strength and resilience will forever be revered by many around the world. In addition to his tenacity, Bhag was always supportive, caring, and generous to everyone that was fortunate enough to meet him. He will forever remain in our hearts. We love you Bhapa.
