Bonnie Marlene Montgomery

Bonnie Marlene Montgomery

September 13, 1945 – July 30, 2026

It is with heavy but grateful hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Bonnie Marlene Montgomery, a beautiful soul who blessed this earth with her presence. Bonnie was the very definition of kindness and care. She lived with strength and a heart full of love, a person who fought every day to truly live.

Throughout her life she faced countless challenges, yet no matter how difficult or impossible they seemed, she met them all with unwavering perseverance, courage and resilience. Bonnie worked for many years in the actuary industry compiling and analyzing statistics to assess insurance risks and premiums for insurance companies in Toronto, Ontario, Canada; including living and working in Keswick, Peterborough, Curve Lake, bobcaygeon, Fenelon Falls, Temiskaming Shores, Sault ste. Marie and Waterloo, all in Ontario. In October 2002, Bonnie alongside her son-in-law Edmund, daughter Sabrina and grandson Justice drove from Waterloo, Ontario to Calgary, Alberta over a 5 day period; a highly memorable journey for us with stopovers at some the places Bonnie had previously lived with her daughter Sabrina.

Bonnie lived a very quiet and loving life full of admiration and care for everyone that came across her. She never rushed a conversation. She listened fully, asked thoughtful questions, and somehow always made each of us feel seen and understood. Those talks, sometimes serious, sometimes light, always real, are treasures we will carry for the rest of our lives.

She had a gift for making ordinary moments feel special simply by being present. Whether offering gentle advice, a warm hug, or just sitting together in comfortable silence, her love was constant and deep. Memento mori, memento vivere, “Remember that you will die; remember to live.” Bonnie fully embraced this saying and passed its meaning on to everyone she met. She reminded us that human life’s brevity is not something to fear, but a reason to love more deeply, live more fully, and cherish every moment wholeheartedly.

Bonnie is survived by her daughter Sabrina Obasi (née Marion), her sister and brother Faye & Wayne Montgomery respectively, her son-in-law Edmund Obasi, her grandsons Justice, Noble, Troy and Phoenix Obasi, her granddaughters Destiny and Faith Obasi, and her nephews Clark Baker and Kyle Montgomery. Bonnie was predeceased by her loving parents Gordon Montgomery and Muriel Montgomery (née Patterson) and sister Nancy.

At the peak of Covid Pandemic in August 2021, Bonnie relocated to a beautiful spacious condo that brought so much joy and happiness to her. The condo is closer to her daughter, son-inlaw and grandkids home. As such, Bonnie spent quality time with them in the last 5 years of her life. Her grandkids were always looking forward to seeing their granny.

Bonnie leaves behind a legacy of compassion, wisdom, and an open heart. Her spirit lives on in each of us fortunate enough to have known her. We are better people because she raised our mom so well and because she loved us so completely. Though our hearts ache, we find comfort knowing the conversations continue in spirit, and that her kindness endures in all of us. Bonnie will be greatly missed but her legacy and love lives on forever.

Rest peacefully our beloved Bonnie.

You were deeply loved, and you will be deeply missed.
