Brent Maximo Ramirez

Brent Maximo Ramirez was born on May 15, 1959, in Baguio City, Philippines. He migrated to Calgary, Canada, in the 1980s. In 1984, his son Isaac was born, and in 1987, his daughter Jheniel followed. Max was a devoted single father, proudly nicknaming himself “Mr. Mom.” In 1993, he met the love of his life, Marilyn, in Calgary, Alberta. In 1994 they married and welcomed their daughter Jhorina.

Max loved spending his free time hunting, fishing, and camping. In 1996, he began coaching soccer for the Calgary Marlborough Community Association and continued for the next 26 years, coaching for Eastside, the Blizzards, and ultimately finishing his coaching career in 2022 with Chestermere United FC.

Music was another great passion in Max’s life. During his high school years in the Philippines, he was part of a singing group called “Sing Out,” with whom he remained in contact until his final days. His love for music carried throughout his life as he played the drums, guitar, and bass and sang in church. His faith in God guided him every step of the way, and he always shared God’s love with everyone he met. In 2016, after driving past Champion Life Centre, he felt called to attend. There, he found his second family and had the opportunity to lead a life group, Regenesis Blessed.

In 2018, Max was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. He underwent stem cell treatments and experimental drug therapies twice, but when the disease outpaced those treatments, he turned to chemotherapy as his final battle. Max fought bravely for seven years, always keeping a positive attitude, a smile on his face, and an unwavering ability to bring joy to those around him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Max’s spirit will live on in the hearts of everyone he touched. He taught us to embrace life with joy, laughter, and faith, no matter the challenges we face. As we continue on our own journeys, let’s honor his legacy by carrying his kindness, humor, and love for life with us. Remember to bring him with you—through every smile, every joke, and every moment of happiness. That’s how he would want to be remembered.
