Dr. Raj Singhal passed away peacefully in Calgary on December 20, 2020 at the age of 79. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Mohini Singhal and his daughters Rebecca Singhal-Patel and Meena Singhal, his son-in-law Shamir Patel, and grand-daughters Raina and Ria.
Dr. Singhal’s greatest achievements have been in the area of technology transfer where regionally, nationally, and internationally he brought together industry, government, and private researchers. He is the chair of the international organizing committees of both the International Symposium on Mine Planning and Equipment Selection, and the International Conference on Environmental Issues and Management of Waste in Energy and Mineral Production, as well as the founding editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Surface Mining, Reclamation, and Environment. He was an established writer, having authored more than 140 technical papers. He was a Fellow of CIM and of the Institution of Mining and Metallurgy and a Distinguished Member of the Society of Mining Engineers. He was also the recipient of the CIM District Proficiency Medal for his significant contributions to the Canadian Mining Industry through applied research and technology transfer.
Affectionately known as Grandpe, our dearest Raj was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. We will deeply miss his compassion, generosity, sense of humour, humanity, and intellect. I am saddened by the loss of Raj; I liked him a lot. News of his death comes hard in a year that has already been hard for all of us. I an inspired by the love and care and sacrifices that Mona, Rebecca and Meena made for Raj in his later years; your example will not go unnoticed by generations that follow. Very sad to know that Prof.Dr.Raj Singhal is not with us.He was our teacher at CENTEK Lulea University Sweden in 2001.Since then he remained a teacher respected for his guidance for so many years.Every MPES brought us closer and in late 2019 and early 2020 we were planning for MPES 2020 in India .I will miss him. My wife joins me to express our deep condolence.The memory of our meeting him and Mrs Singhal in Delhi in 2012 during MPES is still fresh with us.May God rest his soul in peace.
Raj would be remembered by his friends and colleagues from Mining Industry for his contribution to develop a global friendship amongst mining industry professionals, Mining University Professors and students through publication of the Mining journal and organisation of MPES and SWEMP Conferences in many countries of the World.
We all convey our deep sense of loss and convey our condolences to Mona who was always there in his endeavour and their beloved daughters, Meena and Ruby. Pray for his soul to rest in peace.

The news of the passing of our dear friend and mentor, Dr Raj Singhal came to my family as a shock. Dr Raj was not simply a colleague at work, but a mentor and a good friend. We worked together on his many programs in furtherance of his love for technology sharing and transfer in the mining and mineral processing industries. He was a true and dedicated mining engineer and scientist.
My family wishes to express our sincere and heartfelt condolences to his family for his loss, and we pray that God will grant them the strength and courage to bear the loss. May his gentle soul rest in peace. Farewell my dear and cherished friend.
It was sad and bad news, Dr. Raj Singhal passed away due to a few health complications. It was one of the worst news I had heard in my life. The loss of the best scientist in Mining Engineering who serve in mining division with high quality degree for so many years and I believe he can’t be replaced in near future.
Dr. Singhal was very dynamic with bright mind to execute at least one of the MPES, CAMI, SWEMP conferences in different countries every year. Because of excellent personality and management, he was able to gathered researchers from many countries around the globe., almost many of them are friend of each other’s now, in this regard he was unique., and Raj will be deeply missed.
One more time I would like express my sincere condolence to Dr. Mona, Dr. Meena, Dr. Rebeaca and the rest of his relatives.
We will remember time spent with him.

So saddened to hear of Uncle’s passing. I have so many fond childhood memories of the whole family. Uncle Raj was one of the kindest, most generous people I knew, a wonderful father, and a wonderful friend to our family. He will be dearly missed. Deepest condolences.

Our family association with Singhals is a long one starting from Kumardhubi, Grand Prairie, Edmonton to Calgary stretching over many years. We had enjoyed vacationing with Singhal family in the Rockies., We will miss Raj very dearly. We will always, remember him as a loving, caring, kind friend.
