Dr. Ravinder Pal Sharma MBBS CCFP FCFP (1941 – 2026)

It is with great sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden and unexpected death of Dr Ravinder ‘Ravi’ Sharma on August 11, 2026 in Calgary, Alberta. Ravi was born in Jinja, Uganda on August 15th, 1941, to Benarsi Das and Omwatti Sharma.

Ravi’s whole life was a remarkable journey, taking him from Africa to Ireland and finally Canada, where he settled the family, served his community and practiced medicine in Calgary for over 40 years.

He filled his life with endless adventures and looked ahead to the next one with hope and enthusiasm. Always keen to learn & talk to anyone, he was brimming with intelligence, creativity and imaginative curiosity. Even in retirement, he pursued his interests and kept busy with a flourishing community of friends on Vancouver Island, in Calgary and Arizona.

Ravi kept his family front of mind and always cherished his time with them. His unique charm, humour and playful spirit sparkled amongst family and friends. He will be dearly missed by his remaining family and by numerous friends from different walks of life.
Ravi was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Indumati Sharma, his father Benarsi Das Sharma, his mother Omwatti Sharma and his sister-in-law Veena Sharma. He is survived by his children Ritu Sharma, Rajeev (Devina) Sharma, Nisha (Sonu) Johar; his grandchildren Nyah, Ashna, Zevesh and Ryka; his siblings Nirmala (Subash), Warrender (Kamlesh), Vishan and Premila (Prem), along with his large and loving extended family with whom he shared a close bond.
