With deep sadness, the children of Elizabeth Youzwishen Solodky of Calgary announce that she passed away on January 30, 2021 at age 91 with her family by her side after suffering a stroke. Elizabeth was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and was a devoted friend.
Born in Myrnam, Alberta on May 17, 1929, Elizabeth was the eldest of John (Jack) and Mary Youzwishen’s five children. She married Stephen (Steve) Solodky in 1953 and lived in Calgary from that time until her passing. She was a member of the Corpus Christi Catholic Parish for 65 years. Elizabeth is survived by her seven children: Deborah (Dave), Susan, Leslie, Jack (Christina), Anastasia, Geraldine and Samuel (Corinna); as well as nine grandchildren, Sarah (Denny) Duguay, Max, Allison, Emily, Grace, Clayton, Hunter, Odin and Jasper; as well as two sisters, Iris Melnichuk and Pat Lobregt. Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband Steve in 1998, her father John (Jack) in 1995, her mother Mary in 1999, her brother Orest (Ernest) in 1994 and her sister Sylvia Yacey in 2013.
Baba was known for her excellent Ukrainian cooking, her love of Bingo and for being the communicator of the family. She loved being in touch with family members, far and wide, to collect the historic events that she was afraid might be lost with the passing of her generation. Gathering pictures and cataloguing the history was extremely important to her and it kept her in touch and busy for the last 20 years of her life. Elizabeth will be very much missed by her family and those who knew her. She had a joy for life that is rare. We are saddened by the passing of our Matriarch.
Condolences can be left at www.countryhillscrematorium.ca or Lesliemissoula@gmail.com Burial of cremains to take place in Myrnam at a later date to be announced when COVID rules allow.

Our prayers and thoughts are with all the family.
So sorry to hear about Elizabeth’s passing. She was a long time, very good friend to my Godmother Annie Piskolti who thought highly of her. I enjoyed meeting and talking with her many times over the years.

To the Elizabeth Solodky family:
Elizabeth was my Mom Mary Pittman ‘s (Burak) cousin. As a young girl I spent many parts of the summer with Elizabeth and the rest of Uncle Jack and Aunty Mary’s family at the family farm outside of Myrnam. These are some of the happiest memories I have growing up as part of the Youzwhyshyn family. Lots of amazing food, great sing songs and just good times.
I am sorry to hear of Elizabeth’s passing, but the last time I talked to her I knew she has had a good life and was so very proud of her family.
Elizabeth , you lived a full and very meaningful life. Rest In Peace.
Sending much love to you all.
