It is with a heavy heart that our family announces that Gord passed away at his home at Gull
Lake, Alberta. Gord was born to Ted and Kathleen Cushing, in Calgary, Alberta, and grew up in
Bearspaw, Alberta. In 1979, he married his wife Beverly, and would be by her side for 32 years,
until 2011 when she passed away from a hard fight with breast cancer. He is survived by his 2
children, Shane (Heather) and Dawn (Joel), his grandchildren, Eden, Lilah, Mason and Molly,
and his sisters Lynda (John) and Maureen (Gerald).
Gord would work as an automobile mechanic for his whole career, retiring in 2013 from the
Municipal District of Rocky View. After retiring, he moved to “the lake” at the Summer Village of
Parkland Beach at Gull Lake, Ab. He would also enjoy most of the winter months in Sun City,
Phoenix, Arizona. Gord had a love for watching and playing sports. His favourites were hockey
(especially when he was “called up” to play for the Brew Kings) and golf in the later years. He
suffered from severe arthritis for many years, which he would fight against to keep golfing until
the end. He will be dearly missed, especially his high spirited, vibrant laugh.

I was fortunate enough to be called up to the Brew Kings as well and more importantly, was able to be on and off the ice with Gord. He always had a smile, a kind word and an infectious laugh. He was a good man and I’m so fortunate to have known him.
Deepest condolences to everyone who had the chance to get to know Uncle Gord. He will never be forgotten. I have great childhood memories with you all ❤️
The last time I saw this smiling man, he was coming through the door offering me a bouquet of asparagus to go with our dinner that evening. Such a funny guy with a great sense of humour and a laugh you will never forget. We will miss you dear friend. We hope you and Bev are having fun in heaven. 💕
To Gord’s family, please accept our sincere condolences on the loss of our friend. We became friends when our daughter Heather and Bev & Gord’s son Shane started dating and then were married in 2007 on PEI. Together with Gord we share our lovely granddaughters Eden & Lilah. It is hard to loose someone you love. June 25th, we won’t be with you, but please know that you will be in our hearts and we will be thinking of all of you when you celebrate Gord’s life.. We will remember his smile and his shared humour. He is at peace now.
Love from Paul & Wendy Naylor.
Our Hearts and Prayers go out to Gords Family. He will be truly missed by his Sun City friends and neighbors.
Our sincere sympathy to you Dawn and Joel. We are thinking of you all and hope the memories you have stay with you and help you.
We enjoyed many years of good times and hearty laughs (Gord had a great laugh, heard from afar), so many rounds of golf, and boys trips in two countries, winters in Arizona. His reviews of Flames games and seasons was worth the price of admission. His soft hockey hands translated well to the golf course – he was our own Seve.
We will miss you my friend.
Our deepest condolences to Shane & Dawn & families.
Very sorry to hear about your loss! I’ll always remember Gord’s heartfelt laugh and his many jokes shared over coffees at the Zellers Cafe – what great memories.
Thinking of you all!

Gord first became known to members of the Seidler family when he married Bev. They remember him as lively and outgoing, and for his willingness to have fun and share his love of the great doors. His contagious laugh, welcoming nature. Now, while Gord has gone to be with Bev, we extend our deepest sympathy to his family.
Hugs and strength from the Seidler family.
Our deepest condolences to the Cushing family and friends. I met him through Brew King Hockey way back when and instantly became attached to his infectious laugh. You always knew he was around long before you seen him. We had a great time later on going to flames games as his comments about certain players and plays always made games more interesting. He will most certainly be missed
Our deepest condolences to Shane,Dawn and all there families. Gord will be missed.
