Growing up in Hanna, Graeme played golf and hockey, swam in Hanna Seals, and excelled at downhill skiing. He studied for two years at the University of Calgary before venturing to BC to spend his summers tree planting in and around the Kootenays and winters skiing at Red Mountain.

From Red Mountain, Graeme followed his dreams to travel in east Asia. He trekked to Annapurna Base Camp in Nepal, lived it up in Thailand and eventually made his way to Japan. He bartended at a winter resort there and later taught English as a second language in Hamamatsu, where he met Hifumi. Graeme and Hifumi were married on May 8, 1999 in Hamamatsu.

For their honeymoon, Hifumi and Graeme travelled back to Thailand and on to Scotland and England to meet all the Scottish family. Together they moved to Calgary in 2001. Graeme was a snow host at Sunshine Village for years and spent 24 years working at Purolator where he drove multiple routes and in recent years switched into management roles. Hifumi and Graeme had many years of travel together and did excursions out of Calgary on a regular basis to go fishing, rafting or camping. Graeme loved to golf at Country Hills Golf Club and played in tournaments out in Hanna annually.
