Gurdev Kaur Gill, age 80, passed away peacefully on Saturday August 10, 2019, at PLC hospital at 5am surrounded by her family.
She was born May 3, 1939, in Nangal Kalan village, District Hoshiarpur, Punjab, India to Buja Singh and Gian Kaur Sidhu. She married Gurchain Singh Gill in 1961 and lived in England until 1981 when the family moved to Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
She was predeceased by her father Buja Singh Sidhu, mother Gian Kaur Sidhu and sister Resham (Lashkar) Gill.
Gurdev’s life was full of love, laughter, and happiness. When she was not staying in top notch shape at the gym, she was watching hockey and partaking in sibling rivalry with her brother. She was known for her beautiful flower beds in the summer. Her strong belief in the Sikh faith was demonstrated by her selfless devotion in doing seva at the Gurdwara. What truly brought her joy was the time she spent with her family and friends. She loved cooking and baking and used this skill to ensure none of her family and friends lost weight. Her home was always open and you could see how loved she was by how often it was filled.
She is survived by her husband Gurchain Singh Gill, daughter Harjinder (Kuljit) Garcha, sons Harjinder (Harprit), Balkar (Fay) and Iqbal (Salmina), grandchildren Sukhmeet, Simran, Kiran, Amrit and Azaad, brothers Kewal (Gurdip) and Ajit (Jagir) Sidhu, sister Baljit (Didar) Khunkhun, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Following the service, final prayers and langar will be at the Dashmesh Culture Center Gurdwara at 135 Martindale Blvd NE.
