In Loving Memory of Fredrick (Fred) Pidhirney

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Fred (Fredrick) Pidhirney, on June 2, 2026, at the age of 86. He was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather, He spent his final moments surrounded by the family he loved so dearly.

Fred was born on October 8, 1939, in Lacombe, Alberta, and grew up as the proud big brother to Carrie and Robert (Bob). From an early age, he was hardworking, determined, and always looking toward his next adventure. While working at the bank, he met the love of his life, Jeanette. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised four daughters, Shauna, Shelly, Sheri and Jordee, who were the pride and joy of his life.

Fred’s ambition and dedication led to a successful career with Alberta Treasury Branch and later New York Life Insurance, taking him and his family to Halifax, Nova Scotia, where he excelled in business. When illness changed the course of his life, he returned to Alberta and re-embraced his childhood love of farming in the Wandering River area. Alongside this, he continued contract work to feed his entrepreneurial spirit. Over the years, Fred relocated a few more times to live in Colinton, Redwater, Cochrane and Calgary.

More than anything, Dad will be remembered for the joy he brought to those around him. A true jokester, he loved to tease, always making his girls laugh and brightening even the simplest moments. His sense of humour, mischievous grin and the twinkle in his eyes became his trademark. Even in difficult times, he found reasons to smile and helped others do the same.

Fred is survived by his daughters, Shauna (Richard), Shelly (Rob), Sheri (Kurt) and Jordee (Brad), as well as eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jeanette, and his siblings, Carrie and Bob. While we take comfort in knowing they are together again, their absence leaves a space that can never truly be filled.

To us, Fred was more than a dad, grandpa and great grandpa. He was our teacher, protector, storyteller, biggest supporter and a steady presence we could always count on. The lessons he taught, the laughter he shared and the love he gave so freely will remain with us forever. We are grateful for every memory, every joke, every smile and every moment we were fortunate enough to share with him.

Though we will miss him deeply, we carry him with us in our hearts and in the stories, we will continue to share for generations to come. In honour of Fred’s wishes, a private family gathering will be held to celebrate his life.
