September 29, 1943 – June 1, 2025
Calgary, Alberta
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Irwin (Ron) Leslie on June 1, 2025, at the age of 81. He passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family. Ron was born on September 29, 1943, in Calgary, Alberta, to Lila and Irwin Leslie. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Ron will be remembered for his steady presence, his deep love of the outdoors, his adventurous spirit, and the way he made every moment a little more special.
Ron and Darlene’s love story began on April 29, 1965, when they were just 21 and 18 years old. Their connection was instant, and they were married later that year on November 20 in Creston, B.C. Over the next 59 years, Ron and Darlene built a beautiful life filled with laughter and love and were blessed with two children.
Ron spent much of his life in the printing industry, where he took great pride in his work as a master printer for over 50 years. He was always generous with his time and knowledge, happy to lend a hand or share his experience with others. Ron was also a proud and loyal member of the Craftsman’s Printing Club in Calgary, AB, where he made lifelong friends and never passed up the chance to trade stories. It was also where he discovered his passion for curling after he joined the club team, a sport he enjoyed and competed in for many years. From there his enthusiasm for sports grew to include hockey and the competitive spirit that
emerged in the family when the Flames vs. Oilers games were on. Whether he was cheering on his team or explaining the finer points of the game to his kids and grandkids, Ron’s passion for sports was something he loved sharing with family and friends.
Ron had an adventurous streak full of numerous memorable family centered trips. Ron could often be found out on Kootenay Lake with his beloved Darlene by his side, trying to catch “the big one”. Those days by the water were among his happiest. One year, he and Darlene took a cross-Canada road trip from Alberta to Newfoundland, to see the country. He especially loved camping and fishing with his kids and grandkids, passing on his love for the outdoors to the next generation.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Hafez and staff, Urban Palliative Home Care team and Alberta Health Home Care for their compassionate care and support during Ron’s final days.
Ron is survived by his loving wife, two children, one son-in-law, two daughters-in-law, five grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, two siblings and a large extended family who will forever cherish the time, stories, and love they shared with him. Ron was predeceased by his parents, and two brothers.
The family kindly requests that no flowers be sent. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alberta Cancer Foundation – Tom Baker Cancer Centre or a charity of your choice, in honor of Ron’s memory.
