Katalin Kecskes

In loving memory

 Budapest, Hungary March 16, 1936 – Calgary, Alberta July 25, 2023

We bid farewell to a beautiful soul on July 25, 2023. Katalin was born in Budapest, Hungary one of the most beautiful cities in the world.  Her journey to Canada began as a young woman escaping her homeland during the 1956 Hungarian Uprising and Revolution. Katalin, along with her siblings Eva, Steve, and Joe, immigrating to Calgary, Alberta seeking a better life.

Katalin, or Kathy to most of her family and friends, was known for her kind and charming nature, embracing life with enthusiasm. Life was not always easy for Katalin but despite any challenges she faced, alway made the best of things. She treasured her family, and friends above all else, considering them her greatest gifts. Gathering everyone together for coffee, lunches and special occasions brought her immense joy and those occasions bring memories of love and laughter-filled moments.

Her love for beauty extended beyond herself, as she wished for everyone around her to shine. This passion led her to pursue a career in hairstyling, so together with her best friend Irmgard she opened and ran Classic Coiffures Hair Salon for many years. It was a place filled with spirit and storytelling—a special haven for the girls!

Katalin leaves behind a legacy of love and fond memories. She is survived by her daughter Katalin, son-in-law Leslie, her beloved sister and brother, nieces, nephews, and many great nieces and nephews extended family and friends.  Memories shared by Katalin were always filled with the love she carried in her heart for each and every one.

As we say our farewell to Katalin, we hope you will remember her vibrant spirit, her love for beauty, and her unwavering affection for her cherished family and friends.  She will forever hold a place in our hearts. Please say a prayer she rest in peace, surrounded by the love and warmth she shared with all of us.

Katalin had a deep affection for animals. If you wish to honor her memory, and in a position to do so, please consider making a donation to your local animal shelter. Your contribution will not only honor her legacy but also make a difference to the life of an animal, providing them with the hope of finding their forever homes filled with love and care.

May Katalin’s memory be a source of inspiration reminding us to cherish the moments we have with our loved ones, to find joy in the simplest of pleasures, and to extend a helping hand to those in need, be it two-legged or four-legged. May she rest in peace, knowing that her legacy of love and compassion lives on, it would touch her heart deeply.

We  sincerely thank those who cared for Katalin as she suffering through the debilitating effects of Alzheimer’s. To the all the caregivers in her final years at Cambridge Manor and especially Dr. Leonard, our heartfelt gratitude. We’ve said this many times; those who care for our loved ones, during these very difficult times are indeed our Angels here on Earth.
