Dear Ate Andy,
The news of your passing hit me harder than I ever imagined. You were so much more than a friend—you were like a sister, a mother, and a constant source of strength, especially during the hardest time of my life. When Dad left and I was fresh out of school with no job and no idea what to do next, you never let me go through it alone. When I had no food, you quietly gave me money so I wouldn’t go hungry. When I needed help with my health, you stepped in without hesitation and never asked for anything in return.
You always gave without making me feel small or indebted. You carried your own burdens but still found room to carry others. I remember the stories you shared with me about your heartbreaks, and even through your pain, you still offered comfort to mine. I was so proud of you when you moved abroad and started building a life there. I still remember how excited you were when you had your first baby—your happiness was so real, so full, it reached across oceans.
We drifted a bit after you left, and I wish we hadn’t. A part of me always believed there would be more time—more chances to reconnect, to catch up, for you to see the woman I’ve grown into. I wanted you to see how far I’ve come, thanks in large part to the foundation you helped lay.
I hope you knew how much I looked up to you. How deeply I admired your strength, your heart, your unwavering generosity. You were one of the rare ones who gave love without needing anything in return. Thank you for loving me when I felt unlovable, for standing by me when I had no one else, and for shaping the person I’ve become.
I’ll carry your memory with me always, Ate. And I’ll do my best to live in a way that honors you.
With all my love,
