August 27, 1943 – Rouyn, Quebec
May 16, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta
Alcide Joseph Emile Cloutier passed away peacefully at home on May 16, 2023 in the arms of his loving wife, Linda.
He was born on August 27, 1943 in Rouyn, QC. Alcide lived the majority of his life in Sainte-Cecile-de- Masham and Hull (Gatineau), QC where he raised his family and pursued his love of municipal government as the CAO of Lowe and later Chelsea, QC. In November 1999 he moved to Edson, AB to continue his life’s journey. This took him and Linda to the northern community of Worsley, AB in Clear Hills County and then south to Vulcan, AB when he accepted CAO positions with both municipalities respectively. Alcide retired in 2013 and immersed himself in supporting his community through his volunteer work with the Vulcan Lions Club until June 2022 when, for family and health care reasons, he and Linda moved to Calgary. The move also enabled him to be close to the airport which connected him to his Quebec based family. He cherished and looked forward to every visit as they were jam packed with love and laughter.
Alcide is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Linda (nee Ambrogiano, Bergman); son, Rock Cloutier (Geneviéve Labine); daughter, Nadine Cloutier (Jean Pigeon); stepson, Bryan Ambrogiano (Jana); stepdaughter, Tracy Ambrogiano; daughter-in-law, Isabelle Courval; his beautiful grandchildren who he loved so much and was so proud of, Camille-Anne, Salomé, Xavier, Zacharie, Matthias, Clara, Fabé, Thomas, Olivia, Jack and his great grandson, Maho. He is also survived by his brothers, Gilbert Cloutier (Andrée), Rheal Cloutier (Huguette), Michel Cloutier (Linda); brothers-in-law Aimé Bédard and Donald Bergman (Debbie); sisters-in-law, Kay Kenny and Jackie Mitchell (Bob); goddaughter, Vickie Dion, along with his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. We will all miss his smiling face and gentle, kind, positive and loving soul and, though we grieve for our loss, we are happy he is now at peace.
He was pre-deceased by his mother and father, Diane Lamothe and Arthur Cloutier; sister, Monique Bédard; parents-in-law, Helen and George Bergman; sister-in-law Colette Cregheur and brother-in-law, Pat Kenny.
To say Alcide and his family were, and continue to be, appreciative of the medical team he was so very fortunate to be supported by would be an understatement. His cardiologist, Dr. Debra Isaac, was the glue that kept his very compromised heart together for the last eighteen years. She never gave up on him, always found something new to try. When there were no more tricks in her bag to help his heart she focused on giving him the best end of life care that allowed him to enjoy his remaining days on earth. The unbelievable care he received for the last twelve years from his cardiac care nurse, Sanja Fernando, was also instrumental in maintaining his level and quality of life through her caring, compassionate, and expert assessments and ministering right up to the time of his passing. Alcide’s health journey and his participation in heart related research studies involved numerous kind, caring, and expert medical personnel who were instrumental in providing him with a high quality of life despite his serious heart condition. Alcide and his family are so appreciative of all the wonderful staff who supported him through the Foothills Cardiac Function Clinic and the cardiovascular units of the Foothills Hospital. Both Alcide and Linda never ceased to be amazed at how kind, caring, considerate and knowledgeable the staff were during his many visits to these facilities.
Donations in Alcide’s memory can be made to the charity of your choice or Alcide’s choice, The Libin Cardiovascular Institute by cheque (payable to the University of Calgary and indicate Libin Cardiovascular Institute in the memo line and mail to: University of Calgary, Cumming School of Medicine, Fund Development, Health Sciences Centre, 3330 Hospital Drive NW, Calgary, AB T2N 4N1) or by phone at 403-210-6055.
At Alcide’s request he was cremated in Calgary and a memorial service will be held at a later date in Masham, QC where he will be laid to rest.

My heartfelt sympathy, Linda and family. Though I didn’t know Alcide for very long, it was so evident in his gentle, friendly manner that he was such a wonderful man. May he rest in peace.
Thank you Barb for your very kind words. It is not surprising you described him so well as that is how he described you whenever we had the chance to have a short chat. Kindred spirits and I agree.
Carol and I were visiting in Vulcan and were advised of Alcide’s passing. So very sorry for your loss Linda. although it has been a few years now. I always remember our working together and how you so deeply cared for Alcide and his well being.Take good care, be strong.

Thank you Dave and Carol for reaching out and for your warm words of remembrance and sympathy. I am trying super hard to focus on the fact he is now at peace and, thanks to our health care and his fantastic medical team, the many, many extra years we had together we never really thought we would. I am so happy to see that both of you are still traveling around… on your bike???
So very sorry to hear this. I worked for him and Judith Grant for 10 years when he was with the Municipality of Chelsea . He was such a gentleman. We got quite a few things done and had many many good times.
Condolences to you, Linda and to all his family.

I am so sorry to hear of Alcide’s passing. I did not know until this morning when my friend asked me why I hadn’t told her. She was surprised I didn’t know. I have been thinking about the two of you lately. Alcide did a lot for our community and I truly appreciate that and am thankful for the time you lived here. Fond memories.
