Mr. Antonio ‘Tony’ Jośe Tavares

Antonio Jośe Tavares (Tony), a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many passed away on January 10th, 2024 in Calgary, Alberta. He was born on June 25th, 1952 in Ponta Delgado, São Miguel, Portugal to Antonio and Lourdes Tavares.

Tony’s memory will forever be cherished by his loving wife Karen; daughters Crystal (Matt), Amber (Richard), Alexa; sons Dustin and Andrew; stepson Brett (Katie); stepdaughter Vanessa; grandchildren Cruz, Brandon and Ava; step-grandchildren Henry and Gracie. His passing is also mourned by his sisters Daly (Mark) and Mary (Grant), as well as numerous nieces and nephews including Sean (John), Michael, Alex (Addie), Natalie, Shane, Peter, Daniel(Tamara), Christina(Mike) Amanda.  His best friend Matt(Rachel).

Tony had an immense passion for music which he shared with those around him. He was self-taught in playing various instruments, but found solace in strumming his guitar or keeping the beat on the drums. His love for music extended beyond just playing instruments – he often wrote lyrics and poetry that touched the hearts of many. One of his most recent favorite songs to jam along with was “All Hell For A Basement” by Sugar Ray.

In addition to music, Tony enjoyed spending time outdoors – whether it was taking leisurely walks by the river or camping under the stars. His love for animals knew no bounds as he always found joy in their company.

Above all else Tony will be remembered as a kind-hearted soul who always wore a warm smile on his face. His animated nature made everyone feel welcome in his presence. He had an uncanny ability to make people feel at ease with just one conversation.

Tony’s family meant everything to him – they were at the center of his heart. He leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue through generations.

He is preceded in death by his father Antonio Sr., mother Lourdes , sister Eduarda , sister Maria, ex-wife Candice.
