It is with great sadness that the family of Barry Bryson of Calgary, AB announce his passing on July 28, 2023 at the age of 80 years.
Barry was born on September 5, 1942 in Gull Lake, SK and grew up in Shaunavon, SK. His first job out of high school in 1960 was with the Royal Bank of Canada. 1963 saw the birth of his son Russ who was lovingly adopted by Loyal and Ruby Schultz. Barry started working in the oil and gas industry thereafter. He met the love of his life Margy when he offered to drive a carload of acquaintances from Regina back to Shaunavon for a weekend visit. She got the seat right beside him and that was it! They were married in Nassau, Bahamas on January 24, 1967 and after resided in Regina, SK. The couple welcomed their first child Sherry in 1968. The family was transferred to Calgary in 1970. Dan arrived shortly after the move, and decided to make his appearance on Barry’s birthday. The family moved to Carstairs, AB, in 1976 and met many great friends. They returned to Calgary in 1988. Barry worked for numerous operating oil companies in the accounting field. He retired in 2005.
Barry was very handy and built many speed boats, a truck camper, a garage (with the help of his brother Bob and family), and a basement development. He also enjoyed fishing, camping and for many years travelled to northern Saskatchewan on an annual fishing trip with his brothers and brother in-law Ken Scott. Barry and Marg also enjoyed cruising with a trips to the Panama Canal, Alaska, China, and Europe to St. Petersburg being their favourites.
He will be remembered by all for breaking out into his modified version “Bony Maronie” mixed with “Trasfusion” by Nervous Norvus on a regular basis throughout visits.
Barry is survived by his wife Margaret (nee Wolcoski); his sons Russ Schultz (Nicole) and Dan Bryson (Agnes); his daughter Sherry Robbie (Tim) all of Calgary; six grandchildren, Nathan Schultz (Megan), Joelle Lewis (Chase), Jaden Sprong, Sam Robbie (Tamara), Alyssa Robbie, Maya, and Avery Bryson; and two great-grandchildren, Raya Schultz and Oliver Lewis. Barry is also survived by his brother Jim Bryson of Chase, BC; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, their families, and friends.
Barry was predeceased by his beloved twin Bob Bryson of Emma Lake, SK, and his beloved sister Joanne Scott of Regina, SK He is also predeceased by his mother and father Pearl and Hank Bryson of Shaunavon, SK.
