January 15, 1960 – January 21, 2023
It is with great sadness that the family of Colin Swirles of Calgary, Alberta announce his passing on the 21st of January, 2023 at the age of 63.
Colin fought a tough and very brave battle with pneumonia at the Peter Lougheed hospital in Calgary in the month of January. He was supported through his illness by both his daughters as well as close family and friends. He passed in the evening with both of his daughters present.
Colin was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in January of 1960. As a child his family called many places home including Vancouver, Fort McMurray, California, Edmonton to name a few. Colin entered the world of commercial glazing and construction at 18 years old as a glass cutter in Edmonton. He had a long and fruitful career with Bahry’s Glass and then Flynn Canada as a Glazier, Foreman and Manager. He took immense pride in his career and was passionate about all things construction and all things glass. He leaves behind a great community of friends, many of whom he met through work, and all of whom will miss him dearly.
To say that Colin was an avid sports fan would be a gross understatement. Colin loved sports with every fiber of his being. In particular, he loved golf and baseball from a young age.
Colin loved spending time with his family. His two daughters were the most important relationships he held. Colin has many siblings, cousins and extended family in Western Canada, the United States and England. Our North American family regularly gathers for family reunions which began impromptu when Colin invited everyone to his newly purchased apartment in Calgary in 2006 for Thanksgiving weekend and EVERYONE showed up!
Colin is survived by his two daughters Kristin Swirles of Edmonton, Alberta and Jennifer Swirles of Golden, British Columbia, their partners Tim and Honza and their mother Tammy Scott; Colin’s friend. Colin is also survived by his mother Beryl McNeill, his siblings: Karen & Maurice Dery, Julie & Bruce McOuat, Brad & Jan McNeill and Lenor & Craig Robertson. Nieces and nephews and their spouses: Jordan & Jillian Dery, Michelle & Bryan Hynes, Chad & Chantelle McOuat, Brett & Jessica McOuat, Stephanie & Mike Wishart, Mackenzie Robertson (Eric) and Declan Robertson. As well as numerous family members in England. Colin is predeceased by his father John Swirles and step father Gary McNeill.

Our deepest condolences for the tragic loss of Colin. When we saw him last, a few months ago, he was so energetic, enthusiastic, and happy. It is shocking and disheartening to see someone so precious to his family taken away far too early. Peace and strength to your family.
