It is with great sadness that the family of Delbert “Del” Blake Stevens of Calgary, AB announce his passing following a lengthy illness on January 12, 2024 at the age of 58 years.
Del was born in Calgary, AB on November 29, 1965. He loved his family more than anything. He was a Mama’s boy and proud of it. Del never left for work, went to sleep, ended a visit, phone call, text or email with loved ones without saying I love you.Del was smart, charismatic, witty, kind and generous.
He was very adventurous and work and vacation took him all over Canada and the United States. He was always learning and would have excelled in any profession but gravitated towards those involving IT, telecommunications, videography and management. He held a diploma and certifications in these fields as well. Fun fact: Del was a camera man for the 1988 Calgary Olympics.
Del enjoyed golf and travel. He loved most sports, especially hockey, which he played growing up and he was even a referee. Always looking to network and meet new people, he could not be quiet on a plane, in a lineup or anywhere – he chatted with everyone and filled his wallet with business cards of strangers turned friends. Del also loved dogs. Before he was no longer able to live at home, his place backed onto a dog park and it brought him so much joy to watch them. Del even took an elderly neighbour’s dog out there for walks when she no longer could. He was thrilled when people brought their pets to the hospice and care facility, where he spent his last 21 months.
Del is survived by Cathy, his partner of 21 years and by his son Kevin. Del is also survived by his mother, Yvonne and stepfather, Wes; sisters: Alyce, Kimberlee, Della and Shirley; brother: Brett (Ann) as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, their families, and friends.
Del was predeceased by his father, Julius Howard; his son’s mother, Kim and his nephew, Jason.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Those who wish, memorial donations may be made to The Salvation Army Agape Hospice 1302 8 Avenue Calgary, AB T2N 1B8
