September 15, 1935 – November 2, 2022
Fred passed away on November 2, 2022 at the age of 87 years old. He will be missed dearly by three loving daughters.
As a young man, he met our mom, fell deeply in love, got married, and raised us 3 girls in Mount Pleasant. He gave us a great life. He taught us responsibility and honor, and through him we learned to see the funny side of everyday life – at least once a day he laughed so hard that he could hardly breathe.
He was a very proud Calgarian, he loved this city and thought it was the best place in the world. He grew up in the Bridgeland area and as a kid he was actively involved in every sport imaginable and he proudly spoke of a high school basketball game where he was cheered on by fans on both sides. Throughout his life, he enjoyed his weekend golf games with the boys, cheering on the Stampeders, playing darts with the Dirty Dozen Dart club, and bowling at the North Hill Alley. Hank Williams on the radio was a staple in our house.
He was an Electrician by trade, working at jobsites in Joffre, Sheep River and almost every gas plant constructed in Alberta. He proudly talked about doing the electrical work for McMahon Stadium and the Calgary Tower. Later in life he worked at the North Hill Mall doing electrical maintenance.
Predeceased by his wife Bonnie, brother Jim, mother Ethel Ronnes, stepfather Al Ronnes, and father Doug Johnston.
We would like to express sincere appreciation to the staff at Brentwood Care Centre, Sunnyside East unit as well as the staff at Whitehorn Village.
We love you Dad.
