December 6, 1951 – September 27, 2022
Harvey Roy Tavener, beloved father of Tony, Samantha and Sheryll, passed away after a lengthy illness on the afternoon of September 27, 2022 at the age of 70 years old.
Harvey was born December 6, 1951 in Winnipeg Manitoba. He received his high school diploma at Fort Richmond Collegiate. He loved music and was in a band called Revival when he met Lil Hunke . The family moved to Peace River shortly after the twin girls were born and he began his career with Finning.
The next 18 years were spent working and playing baseball, going to the kid’s sports events, fishing, camping, pig racing, video games, and holidays to visit family. He had a passion for helping others and joined St. John’s ambulance as his daughters inherited his uncanny ability to injure themselves in any sport. This allowed him a faster way to mend his little ones for a quick recovery. Our family was resilient – surviving Peace River floods and a house fire.
Harvey moved to Calgary shortly after Sheryll started university. He transitioned to the Finning office, set up his fish tanks, bird and squirrel feeders, completed some hiking trips, spent time brewing batches of wine and learning new culinary skills (smoker) and joined the Calgary Model Train Club. Once he retired from Finning, Dad was a proud conductor at Calgary Heritage Park and spent more time with his endler live-bearers (and other fish) and his two best furry friends (Gizmo and Charcol) .
He fought a long list of illnesses and moved out of his beloved Beddington home in 2022. He would want to be remembered for the smiles he had driving the pontoon boat and racing his new electric wheelchair.
Harvey is survived by his son Tony Tavener and his two daughters Samantha Tavener and Sheryll Amundrud. Grandchildren Annika Conroy, Dorien Foley, Emmet Amundrud-Foley and Carter Amundrud; his sister Dawna Bennett and his brother Gary Tavener. As well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Harvey Roy Tavener was predeceased by his parents Roy and Dorothy Tavener.
In lieu of flowers,the family has requested that a memorial donation be made to Calgary Wildlife (www.calgarywildlife.org, 11555-85th street, NW, Calgary, AB) in Harvey’s memory.

I am a little sad to hear of Heavey’s passing. I worked alongside Heavey in Peace River at R Angus and Finning. He was a great friend to have and was very good at performing his job. I would like to pass on my condolences to Heavey’s family for their loss.
