We were so sorry to hear that Morris has passed away. We thought he was doing so much better. Please accept our deepest condolences and know that our prayers are with you all at this very sad time. Rest in peace, dear Mo!
Morris introduced himself to our family almost 40 years ago when we moved into Dalhousie, across the street from him. He quickly established himself as the “go to guy”, who knew all the neighbours, and the story of each house on the street (he had built some of them, including his own). He was always ready to lend a hand… I remember him putting on a hockey helmet and racing across the street in a violent hailstorm to help us dig out the blockage of hail that was flooding our home!
When he noticed our second son, Matthew’s keen interest in carpentry, he presented our beaming toddler with a big bag of nails, a hammer and a big block of wood and sat down on the curb to demonstrate how to drive a nail. When Matthew had every centimetre of that block covered in nails, (all driven into the block perfectly) I don’t know who was prouder! Matthew continues to use those skills all these years later in his own work as a carpenter.
Through the years, along side of my husband Corey, and son,
Matthew, Morris eagerly assisted with any project we undertook- putting in a french door, installing closet organizers, putting up walls and drywall, repairing siding, and building a special bench and an accessible stairway for our youngest son. As I look around my home, I see the tangible legacy Morris created, and am warmed by the memories of his hearty laugh.
We always knew that our home was secure as well, as Morris was always on the alert for prowlers or questionable activities around the neighbourhood. As our sons and their friends grew older, they knew that Morris would be alerting parents if parties got out of hand when parents were away…he was every parents dream!
The world is richer because Morris was here… and our thoughts are with Heather and family during this difficult time.
So sorry for your loss, may your memories help you through this. Morris was one of a kind and will be missed. Sending healing thoughts and prayers to you all.
