It is with great sadness that the family of Sardar Sarup Singh Kalkat of Calgary, AB, announce his passing on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at the age of 95 years.
Sardar Sarup Singh Kalkat was born to Sardar Watan Singh and Jawali Kaur Kalkat on September 14, 1927 in Montgomery, Pakistan. Throughout his life, Sardar Sarup Singh Kalkat was a hard-working and dedicated man who lived with a sense of purpose. He started his career working at the sugar mill in Punjab and later worked as a farmer. When he immigrated to Canada, he continued his passion for farming in British Columbia and worked at a nursery until he retired at the age of 65.
Sardar Sarup Singh Kalkat was a man of many talents and had a curious nature. He was known for his wit, outgoing personality, and caring heart. He was always eager to learn and stay on top of world events. He was also particularly tech-savvy for his age. He was a loving husband to Harbans Kaur Kalkat, and a devoted father to Davinder Singh Kalkat, Harjit Singh Kalkat, Gurdev Kaur Dhatt, and Paramjit Kaur Deol and late daughter Surinder Kaur Nahal.
In his leisure time, Sardar Sarup Singh Kalkat was an active and health-conscious individual who exercised daily and visited the Gurdwara regularly. He was also a creative man who enjoyed writing Urdu poems and had a deep love for reading. In his younger days, he practiced Gatka and was a proud practitioner of the Sikh martial art.
Sardar Sarup Singh Kalkat’s passing has left a void in the hearts of those who loved him, but his legacy will live on through the memories he created and the love he shared.
