It is with great sadness that the family of Patricia Ethel Bitzer of Calgary, Alberta announce her passing on November 4, 2023 at the age of 83 years.
Mom was born in Montreal, Quebec on December 27.1939. In 1948, she boarded a train with her mother, Irene, to go west to Vancouver. Mom recalled Manitoba floodwaters so high that it seemed the train was floating. In time Mom moved to Calgary with her first husband, Albert Cheyne, and their three young children. Mom’s passions included her children and grandchildren, the Flames, and all things outdoors, including gardening, camping, astronomy and bird watching. Mom often spoke lovingly of a trip she and her husband, Dennis, took to Alaska. She had hoped to return one day, unfortunately it was not to be.
Patricia is survived by her daughter Erin Cheyne (Randy Brown) of Blairmore, sons Robert Cheyne (Nina), and John Cheyne (Joline) all of Calgary, grandchildren Jeremy (Kelsey), Joel (Sheila), Dylan, Courtney (Brad) and Tyler (Janine) and great grandchildren Brady, Lily, Indy and Sadey.
Mom is also survived by brothers Chuck Thomson and Rick Thomson (Sharlee) of BC and nieces, nephews and friends.
Patricia was predeceased by husband, Dennis Bitzer, and mother Irene Thomson.
Mom had a great love and respect for First Nations people and culture. If you choose to make a donation in her honor, the family asks that you consider one which supports Indigenous women and youth.

Us Bitzer kids will always remember that Chev dually & truck camper that visited Hardisty’s Battle River Campground every Summer when we were young. It was easy to see that Auntie Pat enjoyed camping & especially the family, friends & socializing that came with it.
It’s been too long since we’ve visited last, but know that our hearts & prayers go out to you.
Love,
Trevor, Kerry, Wyatt & families
Bob, John, Erin and families.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to all for the loss of your Mom.
