Mrs. Saru Thakore

In Loving Memory of Saru Thakore
September 3, 1933 – January 9, 2024
Saru Thakore, affectionately known as Mum, Ma, Nani and Moti Ma, passed away peacefully at the age of 90 surrounded by her family on January 9, 2024, at 4:30 pm.
Born in Bangalore, India, Saru was a beacon of strength and humility. Her passion and courage guided her through a life rich with diverse experiences, taking her from India to Nairobi, Kenya, at the age of 19 with her husband, Dinker, and eventually to Canada in 1972.
Saru’s journey spanned nine remarkable decades and was a story anchored in resilience, determination, and hope. Saru worked in the insurance industry in Regina and Calgary and was instrumental in helping numerous families seeking a new beginning in Canada.
Saru was fiercely independent and willing to embrace new challenges, as evidenced by her obtaining her driver’s license at the remarkable age of 65. Later in life, Saru discovered the power of yoga and meditation, both of which became integral practices to her well-being and the foundation of life-long friendships.
Saru’s greatest joy and accomplishment, however, was her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her devoted children, Uma Thakor, Vinay Thakore (Roma Thakore), and Shailaja Thakore, her grandchildren, Ujal Thakor (Sabina Shah), Pooja Thakore (Shyam Anand), Urvil Thakor (Georgia Johnson), Prarthna Thakore (Matt Pearce), and two great-grandchildren, Arjun and Kiaan Anand, who will forever carry the torch of her wisdom and kindness.
A warmhearted matriarch, Saru Thakore will be remembered for her quiet strength, humility, and unwavering love.
The family would like to thank the amazing doctors and nurses in Unit 29 at Peter Lougheed Centre and the entire team of palliative care workers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
                  Om Shanti Shanti Shanti
