July 31, 1946 – September 14, 2023
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Shirley Darlene MacPherson at the age of 77. Shirley passed away on September 14, 2023, in Calgary, Alberta, with loving family by her side. She was born in her parent’s house in Progress, British Columbia, on July 31, 1946.
Shirley grew up in Progress, BC, and met Roger when her older brother Max introduced them one night at the family farm. They eventually married, relocated to Vancouver Island, Castlegar, Pouce Coupe, Tumbler Ridge, and Kamloops as Roger moved around with different construction projects in BC. In her forty’s, Shirley took a brave step and went back to school at Cariboo College in Kamloops. She entered the health care field and worked for almost 15 years until she retired with Ponderosa Lodge in Kamloops. For those that knew Shirley, she had a fierce work ethic and displayed incredible compassion for her residents at Ponderosa Lodge. Due to her skill level, she often worked in the memory unit, working with Alzheimer and dementia patients.
Shirley’s world revolved around her family. She had a keen mind and was an avid reader. She was also incredibly intuitive and she seemed to zero in on any situation and could quite accurately identify if someone were troubled or not being 100% honest. She was always respectful, and we credit her amazing listening skills for her ability to engage and endear her to others.
Shirley will be fondly remembered for her exceptionally sharp mind, her integrity, her love of crossword puzzles, classic country music, love of horses, and vet shows, and kicking up her heels dancing before she became ill. She was an incredibly strong, forward-thinking woman who loved her family ferociously.
A cherished wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, she is survived by her two sons and daughter and their spouses. Son Darren (Breonna), son Darcy (Amanda) and daughter Heather (Jason). grandchildren Daniel, Keely, Jack, Aiden, Charlie, Duncan, Roan; and great grandchildren, Elijah, and Addison. Her sisters Judy, Faye, Terry and Penny; and brothers, Wayne and Kelly.
She was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Roger MacPherson, Mother Evelyn, and Father Leo Morin; brothers Max, Roy, Lenny, and sister Gail.
She will be deeply missed by us all.
Shirley requested an intimate Celebration of Life with her children and grandchildren only. We will be honouring her wishes and want to thank everyone for their condolences.
