Surjit Kaur Brar, affectionately known as Jeeto, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2024, at the age of 89. Born on July 25, 1935, in Veroke, Punjab, India, she was the youngest of five children, cherished daughter of Baghail Singh Aulakh and Hukam Kaur Aulakh. Surjit led a life filled with love and laughter, spending her last 35 years in Calgary, Alberta.
After her marriage to her beloved husband, Narinder Singh Brar, on March 13, 1956, in Moga, Punjab, she immigrated to Vernon, BC in January 1975 where she spent 17 years before the move to Calgary in 1989. Surjit and Narinder’s life together became a beautiful testament to devotion and family. Surjit and Narinder created a loving home for their three children: Parmjeet (Gursewak), Kamaljit (Kulwinder), and Baljit (Sukhwant). Surjit’s legacy lives on through her grandchildren – Raja (Prachi), Laddi, Sharan (Vishesh), Deepi (Deepy), Jassi (Ritchie), Navi (Harpreet), Sunny, and Jashan, and her great-grandchildren, Johvan, Jaya, and Esha, and her dog-grandchildren Neeko, Snowy, and Buddy.
Throughout her life, Surjit was a dedicated housewife, known for her joyful spirit and ability to make everyone around her laugh. She enjoyed her daily check-in calls with family, walks to the park with friends, and sharing jokes with her children and grandchildren. Her love for Indian dramas brought her joy, and she found happiness in her favorite foods, including McDonald’s fries, cookies with Cha, a glass of Ginger Ale, and Indian sweets like Gur and Jalebi.
Her generous heart and forgiving nature left a lasting impact on all who knew her, as she never let anger linger long and always prioritized laughter and love. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched with her warmth and humor.
