Nancy Jean Burton, age 53, lost her two-and-a-half-year battle with cancer and passed away at Dulcina Hospice, Covenant Care on Thursday, July 11th, 2024. Her independent, feisty and active spirit will be greatly missed.
Nancy grew up in rural Beamsville (now Lincoln). She attended Campden Public and Beamsville District Secondary Schools and joined Pony Club at an early age where her love of horses and show events began. After earning her Bachelor of Technology, Architectural Science Degree, Nancy moved westward and went on to become LEED certified with full Project Management credentials and worked for many years at Stantec. The corporate world, however, was not her ultimate calling.
It was the outdoors that invited her to live amongst the mountains. Participant in the Lost Soul Ultra, Sinister 7, the Death Race, Soldiers of Fitness and so many other athletic pursuits, Nancy worked to turn her active life into a career; leading large fundraising and sporting events, managing horse shows and even participating as a handler at dogs shows with her Pug Fanciers. As a beloved dog mom, horse lover, rodeo chick, Ultra marathoner and exemplary Project Manager, she will be missed in so many ways. Perhaps her quick wit and unique humour will be missed most of all – she didn’t miss a trick. You’d be called on it. Nancy was also very independent and stoic. From her original cancer diagnosis, she was determined to fight it methodically with a plan. Quoting Nancy… “It is what it is.”
Survived by her parents John and Ruth Burton, sister Laura (Michael) Lucas, Pugs Suzie and Gordon. Supported and cared for by so many friends in recent months including: Natalie Vidal-Oliver, Elyse Fernets, Christy Newson, Leanna Motus, Stacey Perry-Trach, Lori Lothian, Barb Jackson, Michelle Mills, Coleen Anderson and Nancy Burchell.
