Desha P. Barua

Desha P. Barua, passed away peacefully at the light of dawn at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary on the auspicious day of Modhu Purnima, September 13th 2019. He was blessed to be surrounded by his loved ones during his final moments.

He was married to his wife Susmita Barua for a wonderful 46 years. He was an engineer by profession and loved reading all literature to gain knowledge throughout his life. He moved to Canada in 2001, in hopes of providing a better life for his 4 daughters, which he proclaimed as the 4 pillars of his life. He was a gentle soul that was known by all for his caring personality and kind words. He left a positive lasting impact upon anyone that had the pleasure of crossing paths with him. He was a studious devotee of Buddhism, and considered it his second family.

He was first diagnosed with dementia in 2009, a disease which he fiercely battled for 10 years. He did not let the disease get the best of him. He continued to love and live life, and kept smiling until the very end. He will forever be remembered preaching these proverbs that he lived by: “Cleanliness is Godliness”, “Knowledge is Power” and “God helps those who help themselves”. He was taken care of at home by his wife and daughters until the very end.

He is survived by Susmita Barua, and his daughters Annie, Amee, Delphi and Nicky, along with three grandchildren, Sneha, Shreya, and James.

    Desha P. Barua was the great gentlemen and very religious. Also, he encouraged the persons to gain knowledge and to read to religious books. He is the moral person for our Buddhist community. I pray God (Bhagaban) such as he can reach for Nirban.

I remember Desha taking notes of the words he did not understand and always asking questions and saying “The best gift you could your children is the best education.” And that’s what he gave to his 4 beautiful girls. Funny sometimes when he was including Suku as one of his girls.

                We are saddened by the passing away of our dear friend Desho Priyo Barua. Our sincere condolences to Mrs Barua and his four loving daughters. I have known Barua shaheb ( as I called him) and his family for over forty years. I have seen his three daughters born in Bahrain. My family’s first meal in Bahrain was with Mr. Barua and family. He was known for his mild manners and he always greeted people with his ever lasting humble smile. Desho Priyo was shobar Priyo, and now he has become Bhagowaner Priyo.

                            Our heartfelt condolences at the demise our beloved uncle. He was a younger brother of my father Deo Priya Barua. Our uncle always used to emphasize on education whenever he talked to our father and his all four daughters are the best example of that. He was avery religious person and I still remember when my father was batteling with cancer in 2005, he sent us one cassette of buddhist mantra and we played it when my father was taking last breath. We will miss you Kaku but you always be there in our thoughts.

My heart goes out to Sushmita di and the children. May God give them strength to bear the loss. I am sure he is in a better place now. The trio ( Choudhury Da, Pal and Barua Da)have finally met in heaven and are enjoying their game of cards and smiling on us from up above. May his soul rest in peace
