Ram Raghbir Singh Chahal

Sardar Ram Raghbir Singh Chahal was born on June 18th, 1944, in Ratainda, Punjab, Colonial India to Sardar Hargobind S. and Sardarni Udam K. Chahal.  He grew up with 8 siblings: (Late)Ram Narain S. Chahal (Gurdip), (Late)Harbans K. Sihota (Malkiat), Gian K. Kang (Malkiat), Ram Ranjit S. Chahal (Kamaljit), Harcharan K. Basi (Harpal), (Late)Satnam S. Chahal, (Late)Nashatar K. Basra (Narinder), Gurvinder K. Hundal (Satvinder).

As a teenager in 1963 he moved alone to England to support his family in India.  There he met his wife Surinder & they married in 1965 and relocated to Calgary in 1972.

He was a successful realtor & home builder.  He devoted a large part of his life to volunteerism and to his community as an active member of the Sikh Society, Rotary Club and as a candidate for the Alberta Liberal Party. He served as the President of the World Sikh Organization and was dedicated to helping newcomers lay roots in Calgary.

Of all his accomplishments, he was most proud of his three exceptional sons Raj (Japant), Charan (Seema), and George (Aman) and grandchildren, Arjun, Amita, Aiden, Syrah, Gurnoor and Liv.

Ram passed away peacefully in the presence of his loved ones. He will be missed dearly. He appreciated the opportunity to succeed and was grateful to Calgarians and Canada for enriching his life and for future generations.
