Steven Frank Kiss

It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Steven Frank Kiss (Istvan Ferenc Kiss) on October 13, 2024. Steve passed away peacefully at the age of 84, with his family by his side.

Steven was born on July 19, 1940 in Abaujkér, Hungary. In 1956, he became a Freedom Fighter in the Hungarian Revolution against the Soviet occupation of Hungary. At the age of 16, along with his older brother Ernie, Steve was forced to escape his country, leaving the rest of his family behind. Steve found refuge in England where he learned his first trades, becoming a die fitter and an electrician. He wasn’t able to return to his home in Hungary for 21 years.
In 1964, Steven immigrated to Canada, one of Steve’s greatest achievements took place in 1971 when he became a Canadian citizen, something he took great pride in. After living in Ontario for 15 years, Steve moved west and settled in Calgary in 1979, where he met the love of his life, Pat, and built his family.

Steve was a dedicated millwright, working for Parmalat and Tetrapack for over 25 years. He was a proud man, and his passions included cooking (especially when it involved his smoker), wine making, and spending time in Nordegg, which he referred to as “God’s Country”. It was in Nordegg where he found the most joy, spending time with his friends and his in-laws, the Blasetti family. Steve was a skilled musician who enjoyed quality time with his friends and family, these cherished times were always accompanied by a good drink and music.

Steven is survived by his wife of 41 years, Patricia Kiss (nee Blasetti) and his two children, Patricia Solobay (Michael) and Richard Kiss. Steven’s world became brighter with the birth of his two grandsons whom he adored, Mason and Marc. Both boys will miss their Papa dearly.
Steven will be remembered as a devoted husband, and a loving father, grandfather and friend. The sacrifices he made in his youth provided him with the opportunity to live freely and unapologetically. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
