Surjit Kaur Buttar was born on May 05, 1930, in Chak 209, district Lyallpur now in Pakistan. At the age of 92, she peacefully passed away on April 21, 2022, in Calgary, Canada.

She was the wife of Late Major Harchand Singh Buttar. She left behind three daughters, a son, eleven grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. At the age of 17, during India Pakistan partition, she migrated to India under unprecedented circumstances. After 41 years at the age of 58, she migrated to Calgary, Canada.
